hey,

No matter what I do, I cant work out how to set up a default D3 setting in LR2 or how to really go about it. It irks me when I import into LR2 and then it changes what the camera got to what adobe have.

Any pointers, step by step?

Thanks,

Pete.

You'll never get an exact match because Canon/Nikon/etc. haven't revealed the exact processing applied so every raw app has to have it's own default. Adobe recently introduced some beta camera profiles that emulate the camera's processing and you can use those and have it applied on import...

Go to this page:

http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/DNG_Profiles

follow the instructions to download and install the beta camera profiles.

Run LR, go to develop and select an image that hasn't been edited at all. In the profile panel select the profile you'd like to use. This should make the image look much closer to the embedded jpeg you first see.

Create a new preset and from now on have that preset applied automatically on import.

You can also just use the Adobe profiles as a starting point and play around with the calibration settings until you get something you are happy with, and save that as a preset for imports.

Yes creating your own custom profile would be the ultimate solution, but it is a very time consuming business.
