i think the title says it all - I am an idiot, and need loads of help setting up a website - I know nothing, have fairly limited access to the internet, but want to set up a site that looks good, costs little and will bring me millions of pounds and success with hundreds of nubile women.
Failing that, a cool looking website might suffice.
Any pointers where to start please ?
Thanks clever people !
Steve

Zenfolio, clickpic, photium and now Jalbum all provide hosting and a template based authoring system. You can't go wrong really. My site is a photium one and I'm more than happy with it. They do a free trial too.

If you already have a domain/web-space then Jalbum can produce some very nice looking sites that you can always tweak too.

hth?

You can buy a template one, like mine from about £11 a month, but there's loads of such types about these days. I chose this one as it's so easy to amend and change styles, formats, etc. as I know sod-all about websites too

Others will be along soon with a variety of different template types I'm sure

Thank you both !
I'll take a look later, as I have just finished loading my pictures in to the car and am going off to hang them for my first exhibition right now - sods law has proved itself again, as for the last few days it has been wet and boring here, but today, as I have to spend the day inside, the sun is out, and I ought to be pruning the almonds, watering the olives or drinking beer while sunbathing..

I've not long set mine up Steve, I didn't really look into templates, just put it together bit by bit, it seems to do the job for me anyway. Jalbum is good gallery software and free. My site costs me £3/yr to register the name and £3/mo to host.

Drop me a line if you want to I'll help anyway I can.

I've just set mine up with clikpic which was easy, if time consuming, to do:thumbs:

Nice looking site that Ben :)

thanks:)

it looks really good ben, can you have a www. or does it have to be www.clickpicc

I bought a domain name at the same time .co=£12 for 2 years + £35 per year for the clickpic package. You don't have to buy the domain name but the your site would have an address starting with www.clickpic.... etc.

Hope this helps, sorry if I have hijacked your post a little bit steve!

If you want to pay me to build one, then drop me a line ;) :p

if you know nothing, then a templated design and some free hosting is the way to go. Theres more than enough choice out there, so go with what people say on here. I dont go for templates i do web design for a job, i find them horrible and produce bloated code and generally not very good to work with and dont offer the freedom you get when building one yourself.

Good luck anyway. I'll be happy to offer any sort of help if you need it.

:)

Hi Steve

Zenfolio costs around $39 per year, or $34 with referral discount (PM me if you want this) for unlimited uploads of images, your structure of galleries, protected areas/pics/galleries, dispabled right-click save-as etc. You can also point your own domain to your Zenfolio account as well - something you can't do with SmugMug for the same price.

My site is a Zenfolio one and I am delighted with the administration interface which is very easy to use. Creation of galleries, uploading of pics, and control of public/restricted areas is a snip.

There's also a free trial, shout if you decide to sign up and I shall PM you the discount code.
