Hello

I've been doing photography for over a year and been asked to do a lot of portraits, I'm looking at setting up a studio in my shed ( it's a very big shed ) or having a portable kit where I can take with me to locations.

What equipment would I need and where is the best place to gettthem from? I'm also looking to props as well.

Any advice would be grateful

Thank x

Hi kellyanne1703 i am also going to setup a shed studio this year, there are a few posts where people have set up there home studios, so i am sure you will find the information you need. I use 4x 300w lencarta lights and a 7x6 hi-lite for my portable studio.

Sheds make good studios, though ideally you need height as well as floor area - and if you're doing groups or active subjects like kids you need more space than you might think.

Apart from needing a budget figure, I would say that good studio work is more about skill and knowledge than it is about just buying a pile of kit. Start small, with just one studio flash head and a few simple light modifiers. You can do a lot with one light and learn the basics, then if you buy something like Lencarta or Elinchrom, you can build a bigger system from there when you know exactly what you want.

Lots of threads on this approach if you scroll down the forum, like this one http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=455817

Thanks for the info
