Set_Nights 52 Project (2011)

love this! great image..
Did you build it, or was it already there?

Thank you very much :). I am already doing a 365 and was dithering to and fro on whether I should do a 52 as well. I mean the 365 requires time and commitment and will be great for improving technique/composition but it doesn't require that much artistic though on what to photograph within a set theme and I kind of want to improve that side to! Anyway I was walking along the beach and found that and it just struck me that it would be great/unusual for the theme and it was a sign that I should go for it :p!

Great idea for the theme. You are very brave doing a 52 AND a 365. I'm struggling with just a 52:lol:

Nice composition and colour, and I ike the great use of DOF.

For me it looks a little overexposed, and I think a bit more sharpness of the main subhject would be good. Were you using a tripod?

Nice concept for the Accomodation theme, it does look a wee bit flat to me though and maybe use a curves/level boost. I would also be tempted to clone out teh birds in background or maybe go back on a different day and capture a more dramatic sky for the background. Looking forward to rest of your 52.

Thank you very much for the comments :). I'm actually pleased with the sharpness of this image. It was just a quick handheld snap, no tripod, 1/200 though which isn't too bad. I do have a tripod but I've never actually used it :p... I just never seem to be able to plan in advance! The exposure is a bit off (I did tweak it and the temperature a bit)... the beaches in Aberdeen don't look that appealing at this time of year :p!

I'm really struggling with this weeks theme though :( running out of time!

What is a curves/level boost :|? Sorry, I'm pretty new to PP. I'm using Lightroom.

ah sorry mate it's a way of increasing the contrast of the image to give it a wee bit more pop, the equivalent in Lightroom would be thw sliders for highlights, lights, darks and shadows. by pushing the highlights/lights up a wee touch and bringing the darks down a little you create more contrast throughout the image.

Ah, ok, thanks :). I think I already did a little! It was more flat looking before.

I had a really big struggle with this week, I just wasn't feeling any inspiration at all. In the end I decided to go for something a bit abstract. I've always been curious about a specific light effect that one of my friends uses but I've never really understood how it worked or how to do it. Well this week I decided to actually give it a go. So, here is my week 2 with a "new" technique/light effect!
