Set Shutter Speed / Aperture & Auto ISO Canon 5D Mark II

Hi,

I am shooting a wedding soon and wondered if there is a better way of using my camera for speed (Canon 5D mark II and Canon 40D).

I will be shooting in AV mode as I like to have control of my depth of field. The problem shutter speed / ISO. If in AV it sets my shutter speed automatically which means sometimes and dark situations (even at f2.8) I can get shutter speeds slower than 1/60 of a second which I would prefer not to have and increase the ISO. I know I can do this manually but is there a quicker way to do it?

e.g. in AV mode set the shutter speed not to go slower than a certain speed e.g. 1/60 of a second and if it needs to increase the ISO to compensate the exposure?

If anyone knows if this is possible would be very helpful.

It's a pain in the a**e. The only thing I don't like about the 5D2 is the inability for me to set aperture and shutter speed and have it work out what ISO to set....
 
Nope. Auto ISO in manual is set at 400....
 
Would of thought Canon would of implemented this by now. Is it possible with any other cameras do you know?

If you want to shoot in Av mode the autoISO should keep the ISO above the reciprocal of your lens - ie with my 17-55mm f/2.8 and autoISO on my 50D it tries to keep the shutter speed above 1/30th at 17mm until it gets to about 30mm then by 55mm it's gone up to around 1/60th by bumping up the ISO. I'd guess the 5Dmk2 works in a similar way, unless I'm misunderstanding your question.
 
Nuffles yes it does do its best in that respect but I am on about setting a shutter speed for the camera not to drop below, as still 1/30th second and even 1/60th is not good for moving people.

Can you just not shoot in Manual, presumably you will be shooting fully open in bad light?

Then keep your Shutter value equal to focal length so you are just adjusting ISO according to the meter?

7D does it..... Some of the others (60D/600D I think) have max ISO (7D doesn't IIRC)

Maybe not you are wanting to hear but my D700 does auto ISO.
I simply set minimum shutter speed and max ISO and shoot to my hearts content, makes shooting in tricky light situations a bit easier.
But I would have thought shooting a wedding aside from a some outdoor shots most of the light would be pretty consistent (either bad or good) if shooting indoors, do a test shot and then dial in your settings in manual to get the correct exposure...

TBH I am surprised this feature isn't there in the 5D mkii....
 
I have a similar problem with my MFT. In aperture priority with auto ISO they set the shutter speed to 1/30 which is often too slow so I use Shutter priority and set it to 1/80 and that seems to work as long as I'm happy with everything being shot wide open.

Nikon seems to be the best here.
 
Pentax have been doing it for years .. even on their cheaper bodies.

We also have TAv mode .. shutter speed on front dial, aperture on rear dial (or vice versa) and auto ISO (which can be set to a certain range if you wish).
