Does anyone get their camera serviced on a regular basis? Is it worth it?

I have loads of crud on my sensor and was thinking of getting the sensor cleaned (don't fancy trying it myself) and getting the camera serviced at the same time... until I looked at the price - £105 + parts for servicing, £25 + VAT for the sensor cleaned (prices as per Fixation website).

Hi Min
never had a camera serviced, never needed it
as for sensor cleaning, after Janices debacle I followed RobertP's advice / tutorial with the spatulas, pec pads and eclipse fluid.
my 350d has never needed cleaning but the 5D is a bleedin muck magnet.. dunno why
btw can we have the old avatar back please, the one with the grey kitten yawning / laughing, always cheered me up that little pud tat :clap:

I clean my camera's sensor all the time. I swap lenses when out and about and if I was to send it away each time ....... :nono:

Your camera should not need a service unless it has a fault. It should work well within it's design life. Cleaning the sensor is something you will have to do however so just decide how you are going to do it - and then DO IT! :D

I use visibledust brushes and swabs and am very happy with the results.

Robert P's method for me - mine came up spotless last time too (Yes, even at f22 - auto levels!) so I was quite chuffed.

Oh poo - just realised I still have to do the D30 prior to going on holiday though. *mutters rude words under breath* :(

So I guess I have to be brave and clean the sensor myself then :runaway:

Edit - how about this avatar Dave??

Hi Mini

I wouldn't like to offer to clean someone elses sensor - but mine needs a clean. So If you want I can show you how I do mine, its then up to you whether you want to do your own or whther you want to send it off to be cleaned - btw I blame you for mine being dirty, I thought it was ok until I looked at my Dorset pics ;)

I've read Robert P's guide and just visited EBay to make my purchases so I'll give it a go! Janice, you have some fierce competition
