Serif Photoplus X3 or PS Elements 8

Hi there, am a complete newbie and am wondering if you guys can advice on which of this is easier to use or learn?

Also, I have LR3 already, perhaps there is no need to get either or these?:shrug:

I would learn to use Lightroom to its full potential first. It can do a LOT! You will also find this easier than the options you have mentioned. Esp. as a newbie it will do you fine, many don't buy photoshop as Lightroom does all they need and more.

Thanks. Is it possible to cut out an image or completely change the back ground of an image in LR3?

No Lightroom won't let you pixel edit , I would suggest that you opt for Elements as it will integrate well with Lightroom. Plus what you learn in Elements will be useful if you opt for Photoshop in the future
