Hi all

As subject, anyone going to the September Airshow at Duxford.

I was till I checked the prices, ok so £27 might be borderline acceptable for a show of this size but £18 for a five year old, that is just wrong on so many levels.

Anyone taking their kids, no! I thought not.

I suppose they are not allowed to say no kids welcome are they.

Paul

Is Duxford worth going to?
Farnborough was rubbish but then I hadn't been to an airshow since the early 90s.
No kids to take and I'll probably blag a ticket from someone

I'm going, I think if you book in advance kids are free.

I generally find if kids are allowed in free to anything it's because there's nothing provided for them, so they get bored and ruin it for everyone else unless the parents have taken books and games etc, not just at air shows either. So if Duxford are charging I would hope they have provided some decent entertainment, at that price for the nippers I'd be making phone calls to find out what was on offer.
I've not been to may air shows in the general admission area but those I have that have provided nothing for the nippers are tbh ones I wouldn't want to go to, by mid afternoon, early evening the poor things are bored silly, frustrated and tired just when the main attractions (for the adults) usually arrive and they can be a little disruptive.

Then again I am miserable old ....... (my kids are now 32/27, so you can have a wild stab at my age)

If you booked in advance online kids were free, but for some reason they closed advance bookings this week. Not sure why they do that though.
I don't think the price is too bad considering you get full access to all the hangers and museums too, but it's not the most exciting place for kids though.

I guess they close now as at this stage it's too early to determine weather for those days accurately. If they left it till next weds and it looks wet, no one will book.

IMO it is a rip off. Old warden is a lovely smaller airshow, and kids under 16 are free and they get a great play area and birds of prey to see, plus a nice collection on stuff. Family of 4 is close to £100 and although there is a great wooden Lancaster to play on, there is nothing else to do. If kids were free I would probably go, as they are not I would rather go yo naughty field on my own where the light is better.

Ps. Last year I just primed my 5yo to memorise his new date of birth!

There's nothing much for kids at Duxford, there is a fare, but it's not free either.
I gave up being inside Duxford a few years ago, mostly because the views obstructed on the ground and the lights crap in the air.
I either go naughty or not go now.
Simon's right, a better alternative is Old Warden, much cheaper, a good mix (albeit its not often you get a fast modern jet!), photography is excellent and its much less packed.
Harry will now kill me!

I have a free child ticket that I won't be using. It's for the Sunday. Happy to post it if someone pays postage.

Hi all

What is Duxford like on flying days, is it packed or can you move about, can you get to the front line or is it fully occupied from very early on.

The last Airshow I went to was Farnborough and that was in the late 70's and that was jam packed solid all day long, what this one like.

I see the Lancs are there on the Sunday so assume that would be busier than Saturday but the weather forecast is not so good for Saturday.

Thanks

Paul

It's busy but ok. Getting flight line means you need to be there early, no getting there at 130 and expecting a front seat.

Am thinking of Sunday but doubt it would be inside. Do they announce a timetable of the day?

The Duxford Web site says that Grange Road will be closed, but I don't know if that's for pedestrians as well as cars. Parking is at the School in Duxford. I think it opens around 10am, but likely to be busy. It's then a case of hiking up to Grange road and into the fields, if you can get in.
The farmer doesn't allow parking in his fields south of the airfield.
