Now that I am back from Tokyo, already thinking about my next trip and since I have been to Japan twice, Taipei and HK multiple times....my attention turns to Seoul Korea.

First and foremost, where do you recommend me to stay? I had a quick look on Expedia and hotels are surprisingly reasonable. Something that would cost £300 in Tokyo is like £100 in Seoul. £300 could get me 5 nights in some really nice places for March (off season?).

I am thinking Myeongdong or Hongdae may be? Something foodie orientated and central.

Also, tips on apps to use to travel around? I know Google Maps do not work as they should due to the whole North Korea invasion thing, what apps do you use to navigate around on food to find places? and what app to use for the metro system?

Any tips appreciated.

Thanks!

Photo from Japan for brownie points.

Now come on Ray, think about your carbon footprint and the wellbeing of the planet... surely there will be some out of season accommodation bargains to be found in Mablethorpe in March instead? (y)

Not a bad photo by the way, I'll give you that one. ;)

I used to work for a Korean company and stayed in Seoul for 5 weekends, can't remember much about the place other than never get into a taxi with a young driver... Get a taxi with an old driver that has survived the crashes and learnt from them :D

Speaking to Korean friends, they use Naver for such things - it's a suite of apps, including maps.

Thanks guys, everything now booked.

Japan for 4 days, then Korea for a week.

Although i made a mistake booking a flight to Seoul first when I wanted to go to Busan, should have and could have flown direct to Busan for the first 2 days...ah well, i guess it's only a couple of hours on the train. (changing would cost at least £250, the train is only about £40)

As for why Japan again so soon?

I love it....was going to do Singapore and S. Korea but Singapore was looking at like £900 for hotels for the same period, instead of 2 days in Kyoto for this
