Can anyone recommend a good, reasonably priced web SEO company or individual.

Been looking via Google but, it's a bit of a minefield.

Thanks

My good buddy, Stephen, at it's only SEO is your man. Tell him Dean Mitchell sent you along. He's very good and customer care is second to none.

Be careful. There's a lot of snake oil out there.

If anyone promises results, they are lying. It's always a "best efforts" game.

Also, be wary of any blackhat tactics that some may use. Not all blackhat tactics are bad, or will get you banned, but you need to know your stuff very well in order to make those distinctions.

Onsite SEO is very easy for small sites. Nothing special there.

Offsite SEO is the harder part and requires much more effort. Think in the order or orders of magnitude more effort. This is the most important part.

Read up on link building, but don't take too much of what you read too seriously. Get the big picture first, then figure out the details on your own so that your SEO strategy fits your needs/budget/time.

This isn't particularly for you, but I've outlined some SEO tactics for software authors in some posts on Robosoft. This post talks about offsite SEO. If you have a blog, you can do the same thing by syndicating it through RSS.

For actual SEO services, everyone that I personally know that is good at SEO charges a lot. I certainly can't afford them.

Before you spend money, make sure to look into the company/individual and look for any case studies and follow up by checking them out. Some people will claim all sorts of things -- make sure that they aren't lying or stretching the truth.

Thanks Ryan,

I should have mentioned in my first post, I have been doing my own SEO for years but, as you say, effort gets results.

I find myself having less and less time to commit to SEO hence, looking for someone to relieve me of that particular task.

I know what you mean about time. Good luck in finding someone good! :)

Surely the thing to do is to do a Google Search for SEO companies or SEO Websites and use those that get on 1st page. After all, if they can get on 1st page for something as competitive as that they must be pretty good?

Remember the person you pay money to get you in the first page of google, has probably told the same thing to 100 people that day.

Not all SEO companies are like that, of course ;) - Just the dodgy ones!

Many decent SEO's work on referrals, rather than targetting keywords (although they should have some decent rankings, I agree - like SEO+their town) - IMO it's where their clients sites sit that I'm interested in, not their sites :)

+1 for that.

Yes, but if they cant get their sites up and running I think it says a lot. After all, they could have 1000 customers but only give you the 5 clients they have actually managed to do it for.
