Sensor cleaning

I used the same kit on camera's I have to be honest it's well up to the job BUT I was surprised at how hard I had to scrub:lol: the sensor, I'm convinced some of the "dust" is'nt dust it's condensation, at least in my case I believe it was, I use a Rocket blower as well, but this would'nt shift my marks, the sensor cleaning kit did. Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine ;)

With my 20D I relied on an ArcticButterlfy, bit more expensive, but less chance of damage. Never had a problem.

First time is a little daunting. Don't worry you'll soon get the hang of it.

Personally I use the Visible Dust system but I'm suer the PEC pads are fine.

I find that this works in a pinch

although I have been advised that it works better if you take the lens off the camera first

that's just plain silly
if you leave the lens on the camera, you'll never get the inside clean:bonk:

How do you find self-cleaning sensors? Do they do a good job of it, or are you still needing to get our the old blowers etc?

I don't make a habit of getting my old blowers out, Lee, no!! ;) :D

It has actually no dust spots on at all within the last couple of months... we shall see how it is in the summer with pollen and dust etc around.

I have a camera that rattles!!

More seriously, I have a 350d and bought a second hand 400d a couple of months ago for an event I did not want to do without a second camera on hand. The 400D is still clean although the 350 needs fairly regularly cleaning so I am inclined to favour the self cleaning of the the newer cameras.

If you read my thread that well you will have noticed the additions I made after my first clean of the 5D.

E2 does not evaporate anywhere near as quickly as normal Eclipse fluid so it is easy to leave micro droplets behind when cleaning (no big deal - they just look like dust).

Do the practice on a glass filter with a good desk lamp handy and you will see a trail behind the swab if you used too much fluid. Using too little is better than too much.

Expect it to be worse before it gets better.

Work clean and you won't have any problems. First time will be really scary...second time nearly as bad.....then you stop worrying :)

I don't clean that often. If I see a spot or two the first move is the rocket blower. If it survives the blower then I'll do a (not very) wet clean.

Yes I have read all the thread, did a clean tonight but there is still a bit on there also the top ( bottom ) looks a slightly darker colour now :eek:will have another look tomorow aqs I really should take the test shots in day light and who nows we may even have blue sky.
