Wow, @ 8.40ish he really is using some force....I'd be crapping myself...but must do it as I've got some spots I can't shift with blower....:gag:

What I was thinking too. I've had to resort to swabs. Got a spot I can't shift with a blower. Ordered some Digipads last night. Not particularly nervous but just hope they are effective at that price. Guy offered to do mine but left more dust on the sensor than there was to begin with. He seemed to use a lot more than 3 drops of Eclipse though and did both sides of the swab, which I didn't think was right...

I use a rocket blower - so far i havent needed anything else. I think if i had dust i couldnt move i would clean the sensor myself.

The force should be that of writing with a pencil. Maybe a touch harder if the spots are really stubborn. Any harder you risk either breaking something or just pushing the dust/dirt into the AA filter and scratching it as you draw the swab accross.

Glad it helped!

Just waiting the delivery of my swabs and fluid and will be giving mine a good clean, it's filthy. First time too..eek

What swabs did you buy and cleaning fluid? Im going to attempt to clean my D700 and D3s myself after a pretty disastrous attempt by my local camera shop after a couple of attempts, came back to me worse than when i sent it away to them!!

Hi,

I used Pec pads Pec Pads and some Eclipse fluid Eclipse Fluid and followed this post Copperhill method.

After the initial "oh my god" factor I realised I was only cleaning a glass cover, and not the sensor directly, and following the instructions in the post I linked above, after about 4 goes the sensor was completely clear and it was much easier than I thought.

I seem to have a bit of dust on the mirror rather than the sensor. Should I just use lens cleaner/cotton bud/cloth for that my little blower wont shift it?

I use visible dust green swabs and either eclipse or smear away as in the video
