Could anyone suggest where I could take/send my 500D to get serviced/sensor cleaned? It's a couple of years old now, and It's not been cleaned since I purchased it. I'm not really in a rush to have it cleaned(It would be great, but I think I'd rather hold off till the month before I go away in August). Would like It relatively cheap. But would prefer Service over cost, so if I need to pay more, I'd be willing.

Most photographic stores provide a sensor cleaning service. They charge around £35-£40.

If you have a local(ish) shop, you should be able to book it in then collect in an hour or so, which saves on postage & waiting for delivery etc.

Called my local Calumet (Glasgow) There offering free sensor cleaning tomorrow. Just a small donation to Charity :). Paul(one of their staff) Did admit it wouldn't be as thorough as usual as they usually have a lot in. But might be worth while as its never been done before.

Was reading on some site (I can't find it, Chrome clears my cache when I close down) that for Professional's, It should be once a month. And for Amateur every 3 months. I don't know If that's a company's way of getting more cash out of you or not. But I think after 3 year's owning my Camera. It's well over due. I Might just stick to once every 6 months after that.

Hmm my 7D probably needs a good clean in that case as i've had it over a year and it's been in the Sahara with me!

Might just do it myself using a youtube video as seems a lot of cash for something I could probably do myself

I'd say it only needs a clean when it needs a clean.. Not to be done routinely...

If you see large dust particles in your images when you photograph a nice blue sky, or a plain sheet of white paper.. Then it's time for a clean..

Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it...

Tbh that's the basis I've been working on... can't see any issues in the images so haven't really bothered to do anything. Maybe the odd routine clean can't hurt though?

I've used that offer before and it was well worth it

Just don't shoot at f/18 too much :)

APM Camera shop at Old Eldon Square in Newcastle do a sensor clean for £10, Andy. Not sure if it's still £10 but the last I heard it was.

Sorry for jumping in regards the OP.
