Sensor cleaning in Bristol

Hi all

Does anyone know a good place to get sensor cleaning in Bristol? I tried calumet but they said it would be £36. Is there any cheaper place than this or is this about the best price I would be able to get for my Nikon D90?

Give LCE on Baldwin Street a call, don't know their charges but I suspect they might be a bit cheaper.

I'd suggest learning yourself and buying cleaning kit. It's not hard and will take 5 minutes
There's a few threads on here about it and youtube etc videos
I was really scared first time, but it really is simple. Just do plenty homework and be very careful :thumbs:
 
If you can use a pen, you can clean a sensor.

Really nothing to worry about, and its likely a shop won't do any better of a job than you could do yourself.

I wish I found it that easy. I gave up after trying about every single method.

Black on White are quick and reasonably priced
 
Eclipse and pec pads, I've tried a few others and nothing gets it as clean as this combination for me anyways. The last time I took a camera to a shop for a sensor clean, just before a holiday, they said they couldn't clean it as it was too dirty :help: so I bought and used a visible dust kit with smear away and it made it worse. I managed to get some eclipse and pec pads and 3 swabs later it was the cleanest I'd seen it. I shake fairly badly and have minimal feeling in my right hand and think if I can do it anyone can :thumbs:

That link is also the best sensor cleaning resource I know of online - not knowing about the two stage approach explains why a lot of people (including me) failed to get good results.
He also does sessions where he shows you how to do it 'properly' yourself; he aims you never need to go back to him.
IIRC he's Swindon based, so not too far from Bristol.

It is great you haven't managed to smear the sensor (with mirror lubricant spots) and that you didn't shift the gunk simply to one side.
That's all I managed to get with pec pads. Oh and the lint issue...

If you could comment how to deal with that I'd be really grateful. The Ds is in need of a good spring clean and I could do with that £35 in my pocket.
 
Black on White on Coldharbour Rd are very good. If you leave a memory card in the camera they'll leave before and after images on it. I think they're £36.

Oh believe me I smeared it, so badly I had stuff showing at f/8 funnily enough the worst culprit for that was Smear away :shrug: ......and me!!

I just follow the copperhill method, nothing else. The one thing I found at first was applying too much cleaning fluid made things worse, two drops is just about right with a 10-15 second wait to ensure it soaks into the swab.

Another vote for Black on White in Redland. Had several Canon lens repairs done there and also they have replaced shutter for me in my 5D - and cleaned the sensor very nicely in the process.

Nice people in there, happy to explain stuff to you.

I've used them and am happy to recommend them. Albeit what I had done was having a lens with a sticky focus ring sorted out (turned out it was full of sand!)

Not the fastest but very reasonable price IMO.
