How much does a shop generally charge to clean the sensor?

I caled into Jessops in Torquay and asked about this and the chap there quoted me £100 for a sensor /mirror clean :razz:

Buy an Artic Butterfly, much cheaper and you can use it when and as required

Thanks Les, although looking at the price of them they're not cheap (90-100 quid) will a rocket blower do the job?

A rocket blower will shift the loose dust, but anything stuck to the sensor (or more correctly, the filter covering the sensor) will need more effort. It's not that difficult to do yourself - plenty of Youtube videos showing how to do it. Options are a static charged brush (Arctic butterfly), sensor swabs and cleaning fluid, or a Lenspen Sensorklear. I've used the last one in conjunction with a loupe with excellent results.

if you're in torquay , make an appointment with mifsuds in brixham and they'll do a cropped sensor for £35 (FF £60) while you wait - you can put the time to good use browsing their extensive s/h stock and spenmding far too much cash.

arctic butterfly are good but they dont get everything so from time to time you'll need a full clean anyway
 
To do mine, I just breathe on it and use a microfibre cloth. ;)

Just in case any beginners are thinking of doing this, DO NOT TRY THIS ON A DSLR.
 
Another vote for the arctic butterfly. Had it for a few years and its always done the job well. More than paid for itself and never had to pay for a shop to clean my sensors.
 
The guys in Jessops will always warn you against a self sensor clean (How else will they make their money?) however in my experience, I have had zero issues using rocket blowers, arctic butterfly and sensor klear from lenspen on my sensors low pass filter.

For about a year I was wet cleaning with Delkin's swabs, no issues in that respect, just use your common sense when cleaning i.e clean environment and dont go poking sharp bit around your mirror box and you'll be fine.
