Yes
I currently have a 300d which I bought secondhand, its a good little camera and I have few complaints about it, mostly the LCD is too small and gripless its too small for my big mits.

I've just had my netbook go wrong which was within warrenty and it has been replaced with a £280 gift card for PC World/ Dixons/ Currys whilst I decide if I want a replacement or not. At the moment I am swaying towards no I don't really need a netbook and maybe the money would be better spent on upgrading the camera, I'm enjoying photography and I've bought a few bits of glass for the 300d; a Sigma 17-70, a Canon 70-200 L and a nifty fifty all of which would work with a new camera and I sold the old kit lens on Ebay.

I'm pretty sure about doing the upgrade and the options are either a 450d or a 40d, if I buy the 450d I'll need to get a grip as it will be too small, the 40d I can live with and it will also take the same batteries as my 300d I believe which means a small cost saving also.

The question is is it worth going for the 40d over the 450d, I know the pixel count is a little lower but the interface looks better and the performance will be an improvement I am sure. I'm pretty sure the 40d would be as high as I would go with DSLRs, I can't see me needing a 5d or a 1d the would just be beyond my needs.

What do we think? 450d or 40d?

Thanks

Having just gone 40D from 350D I think 40D every time.

It feels much better balanced with the higher end glass, in fact it just feels much better all round.

pop along to a shop and have a handle of the merchandise.

I really can't say anything about the 450D, as I have never used one, but last year I upgraded from a 400D to a 40D, and I love it, it feels very comfortable in the hand, feels a lot more 'solid' than the 400D, has a much faster frame rate (although I find myself filling the buffer very quickly).

With my 100-400mm lens on it, it feels very comfortable, the camera is easy to use, and I am really happy with it.

I went from the 400D to the 50D, not because the 40D was a bad camera but I had the money to go that step further. I have not regretted it at all and whilst I am now looking for a 5D MkI it is purely to work with the 50D rather than replace.

It goes the same way with lenses really - buy what you can afford. If you can afford the 40D, why not go for it? You will not be disappointed!!!

Another vote here for the 40D, just upgraded from a 400D and I'm in love all over again!!

I've pretty much got my heart set on the 40d now :)

After doing some research I think its going to be the best camera for me, the only problem is that now I can't find one :(

I want body only and I have a £300 gift card to spend at Currys/ PC World but no one anywhere has stock none of the Currys stores, I've tried all the towns and even resorted to cities nationally, PC World have it listed but it is so indemand according to their call centre that no one has any anywhere :bang:

40D wins hands down. I upgraded from a 400D in December and it's much higher performing body.

Upgraded from a 350D to 40D and wished I could have done it sooner. Also invested in a used 5D Mk1 to use alongside the 40D. Awesome combination!

40D for me as well. I moved after 3 years from a 350D and apart from the increase in size which I don't like the 40D is much easier to use and adjust. I still take crap photos but much more stylishly.
