@snerkler I use the Nikon 80-400mm (early version) and Tamron 150-600mm and get sharp photos throughout the range. I posted a photo further up the page which was Tamron with the Tamron G1 at 600mm – hope that is of some help

My limited experience so far with the 80-400 is that it is a very sharp lens and the best built by far over the other 4 in my image above.

The vr isn't as as good as the 200-500 but it's certainly not bad. Af is faster than the 200-500. It's 2/3 if the weight and goes to 80mm.

I have the 4 above as I'm really struggling to decide which to keep. I'd love to keep all of them as they all have their users but can't justify it.

Thanks, I have the Tamron already, it was the Nikon 80-400mm G I'm interested in finding out how the IQ compares to the Tamron. If it's as good or better then that's fine, but I don't want it to be worse.

HAHA sorry Tomasz, but mine was taken using a £450 Sigma 150-500 which would leave you with a hefty bit of money left from your budget to spend on maybe another lens
