Hi guys
I may have the chance to do some photography at football grounds around the country.
The company want me to wire photos during the game, just wondering what is the best way to do this?

If I am using my phone (tethering) how much data does it use to send photos? , I only get 1Gb a month ia that enough?

Would have thought the best people to ask are the company who want you to do the wiring, we don't know what they want re quality wise, file size, number of photos, compression ratio etc, etc.

Get those answers first and we can be more specific.

Yep

As Gary says, the best people to be asking are the company you will be doing the work for.

Surely though if your at the stage where a company are asking you to submit live images you should already know how to do this?

Still a long way to go, I've only just sent the company 10 of my best goal/celebration shots. Just jumping the gun a bit.

Rudi,
I agree with the above posts!. why not ask the agency you've applied to if they'd mind if you covered a local footy game & tried to wire live images to them?, this to me shows a commitment to learn &, to you, just how bloody hard it is to get right :).

A phone is great if your signal is recognised grounds over!! (it isn't), most shooters will have at least 2 different Dongles/MIFI units + if lucky ground WIFI.
It's an old adage Rudi, (not meant as patronising if your an experenced shooter), but learn to walk before running!!.
Good luck with your Quest . Kind regards Graham.

The simple answer is roughly 1000 / size of image needed.

So if they want a rough size of 1Mb your answer would be 1000 images in your 1Gb.

Do you mean you already have 1Gb worth of tethering or 1Gb of data on your contract. You normally pay extra for tethering.

On Three I think the cost to Tether is about £5.11 for 2Gb, Vodafone is about £10 for an extra 2Gb but check with your provider for exact costs.

The compression ratio to a certain extend is irrelevant - it is size in Mbs & how many photos you want to send that matters in your question. How you get there is where the compression ratio or image dimensions comes in to play.

Find out the approx size of your images that your agency wants and divide that in to 1000.

To answer the other part of your question - what is the best way?

Some people use email but most use FTP.

However as has been mentioned, the agency will have it's preferred way.

As others have said, agency will supply the way in which they want images, to a size / ratio saved in a certain quality etc

usual sizes are between 800kb and 1.5 mb usually.

how many images would you send in a month? x by 1.5 to be on the safe side and there you have650 or so images per month to wire

the other thing to consider aswell, ground and league depending clubs ahve wifi so you may not always tether from your phone
