Has anyone else fallen foul of the "new" postal tarrifs when sending fils to Fuji for processing?

I dug out some rather old slide film and thought I'd have a go at one roll, send it of and if it was Ok I could use the rest.

As I had always done in the past I used a first class stamp and chucked it in the post.

I have just found this on the Fuji lab website.

"If your reference number is showing 'Your order has not yet been received by the Lab', this could be because:

Your film will not be delivered to the lab unless the full postage is paid, in accordance with the Royal Mail's 'pricing in proportion' policy. This is currently £1.39 per film, per mailer for 1st class postage or £1.17 per film, per mailer for 2nd class. Any film with insufficient postage will be returned to the sender before it reaches our lab and this can take up to eight weeks. We therefore recommend using your local post office to weigh and size your mailer, or multiple mailers in a padded envelope."

So my question is has anyone else fallen foul of this and did you ever get your film back??

David

Didn't get caught by it, but was pretty unhappy at how much it cost, compared to a single 1st class stamp as it used to be.

Hope you get the film back in one piece, bearing in mind it could be sculling around royal mail's system for the next 8 weeks. :(

Fuji envelopes are not postage paid, also, they changed location of the lab a while ago, and the old location envelopes are still in circulation. There's a pdf file on the fujilabs website that has all the details...

Basically, even if you've got the process paid envelopes with the old (warwick iirc) address, place the film in the process paid envelope, then put it in a jiffy bag and send it to leeds. If you've multiple films, put each one in the mailer, then put all the mailers into a single jiffybag for posting, as it'll save postage costs.

ah, so the postage paid deal for fuji sensia slide film is not as good as I thought. Actually cheaper to buy slide films from 7day and get them processed in bulk of 5 from peak....

Learnt my lesson

I sent my ones I ahve used before through the post office, when they tried putting it through the thickness measuring thingy to see if it would be able to go on 1st class stamp or not, it only just barely didn't fit in.

The problem is the plastic film case that comes with the film, the case itself would fit but the lid puts it past the max thickness so either send it not in the case (not recommended) or cut the excess parts of the lid off and it should fit through I think.

I took some films to the Post Office again today - £1.39 for three films. You can get seven or eight posted for £1.72 - I don't have a problem with those prices. The film (outer) canister is way over 25mm letter size, at 30mm. Film can in a thin envelope is borderline on the 25mm limit. Anyway, hasn't "pricing in proportion" been around since 2006?

Re. price difference between process paid Fuji and Peak, there doesn't seem to be much in it either way (I get my films from 7day as well.)

PS. I have also noted "differences" between various Post Offices' weighing equipment, as well as the actual size of the 25mm letter test aperture!

Thanks for all the replies. I suspect my film will be lost to the RM naughty office!!.

The film was 5 years out of date so nothing lost using the process paid service, just wanted to see how it turned out as I had a couple to use.

Thats true, except with Peak one can use any film and not stuck with Sensia.

Hi, i`m having great difficulty finding process paid envelopes to send 5 slide film spools i shot last year. Can anyone direct me please. Also does anyone know of company that will make prints from slides without scanning them for it? Just joined this forum thing not being great with t`internet. Although i`m getting the 50d aswell soon, i wont get rid of my F4 and need a little re-inspiration which has been sadly lacking as i`ve come up against more and more obstacles to using slide over the last couple of years.

If you just want the films processing, I'd send them to Peak Imaging.

They do a freepost address label to send the reels of film in for processing, and will do prints direct from slide, or develop and scan - price list here. To b honest, unless you're sure that the shots are all going to be keepers, I'd get 'em developed and scanned to cd, then just print the ones you want... after all, you've got the slides for all of 'em anyway

I've no affiliation with Peak incidentally, other than being a satisfied regular customer, and I'm sure that there will be others along in a moment to give their recommendations.

If you want to get prints from slides in the 'traditional' way using cibiachrome paper, then this place will do it:

http://www.photech.co.uk/printing/traditional-printing/

Unfortunately they have updated their website since I last looked and say they will stop doing Cibiachromes late in 2010, this is a great pity as I don't know of any other places doing them still.

I am intending to get some prints from some of my slides in this way as the archival quality and sheer gloss is susposed to be brilliant.

Just to tie this up

Recieved my film back today 28.5.10 so 11 days since I posted it with innapropriate postage.

So no extra cost to me and my film didn't dissapear  to Fuji

Did come back "flat pack" rather than in a box, is this how they send them nowadays to get over the postal regs??

Very pleased with the results, seems 5 year out of date Fuji slide film is perfecetly OK to use.

David

mine came back flat packed, you mentioned the tracking the order online, I have sent a few films and have never been able to track the order.
