I'm looking to sell of a large chunk of my film and digital gear as impending redundancy means I need to get back some of the money I've spent for things like food :(

I'm looking at going through one of the second hand dealers to avoid eBay and it horror stories. I'm looking at Ffordes, Mifsuds and Aperture but if anyone has any others to recommend (or probably more important, any reasons to avoid anyone in particular) that would be great to know

Thanks

Chris

You would be much better selling on here if you can. Whilst the dealer route will probably be less trouble you will get considerably less than the secondhand Market value as they will have to add vat, some allowance against warranty and make a profit.

I made a massive mistake selling my Nikon outfit to Mifsuds as I probably got about 50% of what I would have got had I sold at even reasonable prices on here.

I can see your point for my Canon digital stuff, but as you've seen yourself with your hassie set-up the market for expensive film gear on here seems to have dried up somewhat

I've got about £5k worth of film gear to sell, mostly in expensive single items or large format which doesn't seem to have much of a market on here

To be honest for the sake of a post or two personally I would still have a go here before using a dealer.

A big +1 to Ed's comments - give it a go here you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Give it a fortnight on here then let one of the companies do a commision sale for you.

No harm in trying here first but if you want to go to a dealer then recently sold a body & flash through MPB Photographic who were easy to deal with and gave me a price I was happy with

I would list it up on here, with the price you want and see. Doesn't cost anything.......

Looks like I'm giving it a go on here then

The reason I wan't to avoid ebay is that with the charges for paypal and everything it ends up close to if not the same as the dealer charges, but with extra risk and hassle. I'll have to get cracking taking pictures of everything and get a thread up

Thanks all

I'd agree that this site may not be the best place for LF, so you might want to join up at the UK LF site and list it there (it's OK, you don't need 100 posts there:lol:). As far as eBay is concerned, they've just changed their way of listing film cameras today and they're all lumped in together with over 13,000 in that category. Finding LF stuff in amongst there is now a nightmare and you might want to consider that.
