Edit My Images
Yes
Hi all, I'm going to be looking to sell images on my website soon and was wondering if anyone can recommend some good solutions / give their experiences. I saw one today called Lightbox which seems to range from $250 to $1000. http://www.lightboxphoto.com/

I'm happy working with PHP so ideally I'd like some sort of opensource software but I don't know if any exist. Another one I saw today is PhotoCart.

Any help much appreciated

Btw., if you think you'd have to modify their source code, if you're comfortable with PHP, CodeIgniter might be worth a look - it's a framework, I've tried it only briefly and haven't built any sites with it, but while trying it, it seemed to be fairly well thought out. As I've said, I haven't tried it out for anything serious or a longer time.

EDIT: Sorry about the two posts.

I use "Joomla" with a component called "Virtuemart".
It's well worth a look. Its all free open source and a very good package!

I would post a link to my site but its not finished yet :bonk:

i've used coppermine in the past and it is very good but I don't really fancy coding a shopping cart addin, simply not enough hours in the day :-(

I've played with a joomla install in the past and so i'll check out the Virtuemart pluggin too!

Thanks so far guys, did you see the two links i posted, i like the Photocart one quite a lot!

I would avoid Joomla, it was quite slow for me even on localhost.
Totally AVOID Zen Cart and osCommerce. They are among the slowest pieces of code I've ever used.
I'm working on my own architecture and a collection of classes and functions with a higher level of abstraction, where things such a CMS, e-shop, forum, image gallery, etc. are going to be modules (with submodules handled by the parent module due to their different needs). It won' be open sourced (most likely), even though I'm doing them for my own needs, mostly. A lightweight version of my system for my image galleries is going to be on my separate photography website... which should be finished in March, as until March, I'll be busy with learning for an exam (Experimental identification).

Take a a look at www.jalbum.net - it hooks in to PayPal with just an email address, very easy to set up and maintain and you can design your own skin/content for the pages it generates

cheers for all the advice so far guys. I've actually used jalbum in the past for something so will have a look at that tonight :-)

Your hosting company should provide scripts such as shopping carts for you to use.

There is a template called EOS Template which is a shopping cart system. Its tricky to configure as it uses a lot of javascript and css (easy if your're a code monkey) but doesn't need php or mysql to run.

Works in conjunction with Jalbum, Breezebrowser or CS2 but no lightroom integration or picasa integration yet.

Costs about £ 60, so not free, but affordable.

It has its flaws but everything is flawed to some extent, but its good value for money.

yeah i signed up to them and it sounded great but its been weeks and still no ftp details so exploring other options. Do you know anyone who has used them?

Robby's

We sent an email out to members who hadn't completed the full process of getting their galleries online (ie no price list submitted back to us, no gallery name and no sample image to get the gallery online).

If you want to drop me a mail or a message through the site, i'll have you online in no time.

just to make clear i'm not looking to give Lee / togsfriend a bad name or anything, it may well be something i've not done right on the site or something.

I think I've got a solution now using the JAlbum Fotoplayer template, it's very good.
