Yes
i've been selling my sony camera gear over the last week and sold everything except a camera which i have stuck on gumtree today. i've used the site before with no hassles for things like selling tickets for gigs, but i'm a bit more cautious with my camera.

the advert went live around 1pm and at half 4 i received an email from an interested party asking if it was still available, then 7 minutes later another email from a different party asking the same.

i replied to both with the same answer, that yes it was still available.

the first interested party was first to reply, with a predictable i'm out of the country and want to buy it as a gift for my friend in nigeria etc. etc.

the second said the price i was asking was pretty reasonable and offered to pay for delivery via royal mail first class post and asked if paypal was acceptable and if i could send an invoice to her supllied e mail address.

i have since asked the second party for contact details (contact telephone number and postal address) before i request any money via paypal or any other method. i explained that there are a lot of dishonest people using gumtree and that if she was indeed an honest person she should have no problems providing contact details.

does the second one sound like a scam as well or am i being paranoid? if i send them my paypal email address can they do any badness with it? or withdraw funds after sending them.
i'm pretty naive when it comes to paypal because i rarely use it so any advice would be welcomed on this subject.

It'd be better to speak too the people on the phone I think before getting too far into a transaction. Could you not sell it here?

Don't accept paypal - only deal with cash and face to face if selling on Gumtree.

They can either use a hacked account or there is another way (which I can't recall at the moment) by which they can take the money back after you have been paid.

EDIT: have a look here and here.
