Selling it all for 1 lens 1 camera.

So have you bought it yet? If not, whatcha messing around at? :D

I really do like the idea of a 1 camera and 1 lens setup.

Need £2900 cash, raising the funds before I order :) wiped out last pay check on bicycle :)

Watching this thread with interest; I've a whole bunch of 5dMK3 kit that has spend the last year doing almost nothing. I bought a Canon M3 and 11-22mm lens to take on holiday and liked both the portability and the lack of having to 'decide' what 'tool' to use, instead just focussing on what I needed to do to get what I wanted from the only tool I had. I'm happy that I'll be comfortable with a smaller / fixed combo.

The 'Q' specs do look nice - I was really interested in the Sony and hadn't heard of the Leica Q until reading this thread. No too silly a price in comparison either, unless both are of course off the mark in price terms.

Well that's the 5D3 & lenses gone. Now to find a 'Q'; on a couple of waiting lists but they all appear to be 2-3 months.

you spoke for me :) got some bits still left to sell - but ready to buy a Q if it was available..

don't think it would be a deal breaker if your in the market for a Q

not sure you can get any "deals" on the camera seeing that its hard to come by anyway m8

It should have at least been an extreme pro! :)

Thanks, placed my preorder with Dale Photographic - they have cleared their queue, so I should be next in line. hopefully 4-5 week wait.

Nice, enjoy your new camera.

cheers!

I've setup a wordpress blog to give me an outlet, put some of my 'old' stuff on there for now.

I for one am looking forward to seeing what you can produce. Although i only take shots for my own pleasure this is something that i can relate to having sold a 5D3 & half a dozen pieces of "L" glass and now go about my spare time with a Fuji XT-1 & 23mm 1.4.
for the last few months I've found it quite liberating and certainly have no regrets

Why post something like this unless you have doubts? If you think it's the right thing to do, just do it. I wish you luck and hope it works out for you.

Be a bit of a dull forum then wouldn't it...

Because I was interested to hear how other people got on :) that was the actual topic of the thread.

I'd be looking at trying something like a Fuji X100. IQ might not be as great as the Leica, but you'd avoid having to sell all your other kit until you were certain you could live with a single focal length.

Llamaman, Aug 4, 2015 Report

I'm in the same position as Llamaman on this. I've got great DSLR gear - Nikon D610 and a whole range of lenses but when I go out I always end up taking too much kit with me, and then missing shots while I try to decide which lens I should use... not to mention carrying the stuff up hill and down dale!! So I have bought a very lightly used Fuji X100 at moderate cost to see if I can get back to the 'old days' when I used to use a Mamiya C330 with standard lens. I decided on this camera because I wanted something with a combination of decent quality, portability without being too small and affordability. If I find I can't live with a single lens camera I'm not going to lose a lot of cash when I sell it on. Here's hoping!

Borrowing a Fuji X100T for a week at the moment, I will be getting the Leica still though - it's on order.

Sold most of the Canon gear now, only Canon 200mm f/2 IS USM, Carl Zeiss 21mm 2.8 and a few accessories to go.

I still have my Sony A7S and 35mm 1.4 - but I anticipate selling those once I get my Leica Q.

Would be interested to hear how you get on with the X100T - it consistently comes up in comparisons when looking at the Q.

Fuji still seem obsessed by stupid "fly by wire" focussing with no sort of distance scale, only aperture scale on the lens - you would have thought they would have learnt by the time they make the third version of the x100!

Gotta save something for the fourth... :D

For people who don't manual focus, it doesn't really matter.

Besides, the fly-by-wire works fine. I personally don't see them changing. Their whole X mount collection are focus-by-wire.

For me, the X100 (any variant) is my single camera of choice. I've been rocking the original X100 for so long now...... In fact (slowly) selling all my Canon gear as well.

You do at least get a distance meter in the viewfinder with the Fuji - at least you do on the X100 original :-)
The Q is focus-by-wire too btw.

I like to adjust the distance gauge on the fly whilst shooting from the hip. Depending on whether someone is within metre or five metres away, and then if i'm moving and they are moving, I will need to make adjustments throughout.

Cant image just owning one camera :)

Having two cameras when I can only use one at a time is frustrating :) the more you buy the less use you get out of it because you split your attention. Well that's how I feel :)

I usually only take out one camera, but because i have one on me 24/7 knowing i have backup at home if one goes down, plus if i am away the, same having an backup :)

I lug my gear all over the place, but if I go out on a trek then I remove the grip from my 5d3 and just pick one lens, I often get wish I had this or that when I arrive at the location but it's soon forgotten once the camera comes out. Brave move going for something at such high cost that is so unique, or at least I'd say unique in that I have never seen one out and about. I don't know much about the brand other than from what I read it get a very mixed review from owners etc. Be interesting to have a play on one but I doubt I ever will, look forward to reading your feedback. I do love a selection of glass, but yeah, weight and kit is a pain!

Thanks for the link to the camera size comparison app, it's an eye opener. I'm glad I found this site as I was/am contemplating selling on my Canon gear and buying a Leica Q, but deep down I'm thinking am I mad ? Glad to see I'm not the only one thinking along those lines. I really do need to rationalise my kit and concentrate on the most important aspect, taking photos !
