hello,

alittle dilemma.

since taking pics of mates cars moving etc loads of people are asking them to ask me to do there cars. problem is i would be ripping myself off as the ones i do for mates have been free (how kind am i)

now the thing is what sort of cost would you take into consideration for taking 200/300 pics of there cars, moving, stills in a few locations, processing and giving them a disk?

now i aint no pro i know that but camera stuff doesnt come cheap and i have spent £1500 plus on equipment and am yet to see anything back (thats not my point in all honesty just to give an idea)

the taking pics, processing etc takes a few hours and it would be nice for them to send alittle my way as a thanks but what sort of figures do you guys look at?

would be the earth but just after rough idea's atm

the ones i did for a mate i also printed off an A4 pic so may chuck in a couple of printed images with a price to

thanks

200-300 pictures is a hell of a lot! Work I have done in the past I have tended to charge by the hour. As a guide, I charged £100 for about an hours work a while back, a little longer maybe.

You dont want to scare them off with daft prices though. Will they be using the pictures comercially or just for their own use?

own use mate

thats the thing i dont want to rip them off (not the best saying i guess) but dont want to rip myself off at the same time doing everything free

I am a complete novice, and as such, at the moment if mates ask me for shots, its only about £20 per hour and that includes unprocessed shots. Will go up slightly once processed :)

Its all about what you're comfortable with :)

I was the same, you dont want to ask them for much because they are you friends but at the same time, it is a lot of work for you and your time = money :D

Its a hard compramise.

But then again I have just done a Wedding and a full hours session in the studio for...... FREE!!!!!

lol

i would supply a CD with a two folders, one unprocessed, one processed so they have both

i shoot in RAW so on the CD/DVD would be all of the Jpegs with me owning the RAW's

I think the main factor is time, just put it all into the equation. Will you need to use your car to get to locations, petrol, CD's, paper, ink etc

yeah i will have a think about it, possibly no to car/travel but may have to occasionally

What about making a day of it and getting a four or five to chip £25 each. By doing a few cars at a time you can cut back on shooting and processing time and they'll get a good deal as well. A few days like this and suddenly you've made £500 from it

bringing this subject up again sorry guys

just wondered what images are worth singally?

if i was to be approached by someone for an image what do we think there worth?

If you measure the piece of string you can convert the lenth in cm to pounds.. so how long is that piece of string?

Seriously, it depends. Are you talking about a commissioned shot, one from an event or something else? Event shots typically go for £5 and up depending on size, type of event, etc. If it's something a bit special, eg a limited edition framed fine art print, you could be looking at hundreds.

mainly events to be honest

if someone seen my shots for instance and wanted to buy one (i live in hope lol)

Then generally prices start at around a fiver for 6x4" - don't forget to factor in costs such as p&p when deciding on tha price.

Trackday photography/club motorsports there's usually a Tog walking around with 10 x 8's (or similar size)for £10 or so.

Going rate in the paddock of club level motorsport is normally £ 5 for a 10x8 on proper photo paper for a picture handed over there and then.

The meetings we normally take our F3 car to has at least 2 'togs come by to try and flog you a snap. Sometimes we buy one, sometimes we don't.

Just a thought. Why not just give them the processed pics. You could also provide some low res images for quick look on the computer.

Also think about the quantity you giving them. Maybe 50 or so is more than enough. I doubt they will look at all 500

i haven't sold any yet, been asked a couple of times to take some but was unsure as to prices etc as i dont want to be seen to be ripping people off. i am new to this sort of thing

personally, look what your time costs for your full time job. whatever it comes to double it, to allow the time editing. so if your there for 3 hours taking pics, charge 6 at your hourly rate from work.

I work in a small catering company in London. My boss asked me to do some photographs for the agency's website. Pictures of food, waiters, maybe some events. How much should I charge him? I thought about £10 for one photograph chosen for the site. Is it ok or too cheap/expensive? Or should I charge him per hour (how much?) or maybe for job done (how much?)
Please remember that I'm amateur and it would be a first photography job.

toguko, point him to alamy.com where he can price the job and if he squirms tell him that as you're not having their commission deducted you can do it for (insert percentage here). He pays for everything else, doesn't he? And in any case, it's a legitimate business expense.

taken loads (thousands) already with old and current cam and spend hours, now people like then i get more people asking about taking them of cars

so surely its pointless keep doing it free?

no problem

now a dilemma lol

been asked to send some pics to a company of their car that was racing at the weekend, i only want to send the watermarked images, but have a feeling they will want the high res ones

what sort of price would you say these are worth? they have said they will put a link to my site on there's, prob abour 50/60 pics at a guess, still going through them

Just one pic? Going to be used on a commercial site?

I typically charge somewhere in the region of £50 per pic, depending on the size / use etc

i am guessing there will be 3 or 4, possibly more on there site as it will be seen as more advertising mate. not sure on prints without speaking to him

it would be images for the site mainly i think. possibly a couple of prints if i was lucky

A couple of images on a commercial site.

Maybe strike a deal at £100.00

Say usual price is £30 each, but you're giving discount for quantity/link back to you.

i will see what they say regarding the images once i have sent them over

thanks for the advice
