get at least 3 quotes from 'real' jewellers shops.you will be suprised how many jewellers are getting in on the rush to buy/sell gold.i wouldnt bother with online buyers as they will only offer the price of gold minus gemstones/diamonds etc and charge to return if your not happy with their offer.
And don't pawn they will generally only pay up to 30% of what they think they can sell them for not the real value ( worked at a pawn shop for a while )
My Dad's a jeweller and they buys in old gold on a daily basis.
As with most things, there's a range of prices that can be offered and as they're in business to try and make money, most jewellers will offer the lowest going rate initially.
The trick is to play them off against each other
At the end of the day, if you're not happy with what you're getting offered just walk away, although if you wanted a some new jewellery then speak to them about that too as they might be inclined to do you a better deal
