Yes
I have a phone that someone in Sweden wants to buy via Gumtree but the question is that is there a safe way to get your money so that it can't be fraudulently regained after it is sent so you lose cash & phone. Thanks in advance.

That's what I thought as I did't think anything can be done with just your account number and sort code

They won't want to do that though. I would forget about it personally.

Agreed

Is it really worth the hassle and potential risk?

Surely they can source one locally instead of buying from abroad?

Bang it on EBay or hold out on Gumtree for a UK buyer, everyone wants a phone at some point.

Always thought Sweden was pretty savvy in terms of mobile technology so I'm surprised, as noneforit says, they could not find on locally, unless your price is a good deal compared to the local market.

Agree a bank transfer is the way to go.

Thanks everyone, I think I will leave it.

i doubt if they will be able to do a bank transfer via sort/account as they are in foreign currency.
you will need to supply your IBAN od IBIC number at best.
if you really want secure then cash to western union near you.

Why couldn't they do it?

What you’ll need
  • The International Bank Account Number (IBAN) and Bank Identifier Code (BIC) for the account you are paying to – the owner of the account can get these details from their bank or from a bank statement
  • You will also need the IBAN and BIC from your own bank account, though for a transfer to another branch of your bank abroad they might not be needed
Check you’re using a valid IBAN on the UK payments website

Just ring up the bank and ask for those details, my online banking shows mine.

He only needs to provide his own to the buyer.

Why do so many people again want to buy from unknown sellers in china and sell via gumtree to abroad. These are the exact ways to lose your money and goods.

If they transfer money, it will be likely money from hacked account, etc. Just watch it disappear some time later as banks trace it back. The people abroad can buy locally, and you can sell locally just as well.
