"
What is a Certificate of Posting?
A Certificate of Posting is your proof that you have posted the item declared on the certificate into the Royal Mail network.

The Certificate of Posting needs to be date stamped and signed at a Post Office® window as having been accepted into the network. In the rare instance of your item being lost, you will have to present a stamped and signed Certificate of Posting with your claim for loss."

Nowhere does it say it can be tracked.

And the tracking page has no mention of Proof/Certificate of posting:

What is 'Track your item' and how do I use it?

Track your item lets you check the delivery status of items that have a tracking number. If you've used Royal Mail Signed For™ you can also confirm when your item has been delivered. If you’ve used a signature on delivery service to an address in the UK, you can also see a copy of the signature we obtained.

Just enter your tracking number where shown and follow the on screen instructions.

I would like to unreservedly apologise to everyone..... I got this totally wrong

I asked my wife for the proofs she had from the recent visits to the post office so that I could scan them and put them up here - It was at this point that my wife pointed out that the letters were all pre-paid by the company she uses and they have some sort of special deal with the post office where by they provide you with a tracking number when you ask them for proof of posting.

Once again my apologies  :$

No problem Keith, with all the variety of methods available it's an easy mistake. Sounds like the company got a prepaid deal on "Tracked Mail".
