I’d like to take a nekkid selfie in the snow (while it lasts) for Betty’s Natural Beauty thread. Not at all concerned about wandering around in the nude – the fields in these parts are very remote and in the unlikely event that I’m spotted it’d be far less scandalous than what the Young Farmers get up to on a Friday night! :cuckoo: :gag: Nobody would be offended.

I obviously know how to use the self-timer and remote on my camera(s) and have a tripod but how do I focus?

Advice would be very much appreciated :)

Place a stick in the ground and focus on that switch the lens to manual focus and stand where the stick was and hit the button.

put a stick in the ground where you intend to stand/drape/sprawl/recline yer nekkid self and focus on that !

ahem - could focus for you ?.....:naughty:

hahahahaha - must type faster

PS - offer still stands

Dammit if only I was closer! :)

I did actually try to get a nude model for a snow shoot and none of them were up for it! Wusses!

Best way is to put something roughly where you will be and manually focus taking the depth of field into account. Shoot at something like f8 and you should get enough of you in focus :)

Just before the shutter fires the camera will (auto) focus and get exposure info.

Matt

Decide where you are going to pose, and put something there that you can focus on. Focus the camera on your marker - probably best to then set the lens to manual focus so that it doesn't subsequently move.

Press the shutter button, quickly adopt your pose (kicking your marker out of shot if necessary) and voila. If you shoot in Av mode, it's probably better to use a smaller aperture, f/8 or f/11, as this will give you a greater depth of field, which gives you more latitude for any small focussing errors.

Good luck.

place an object where you will be posing auto focus on that, when focus is achieved switch to manual focus (carefull not to adjust the lens) or just manually focus replace the item with yourself and fire away.

Place an object in the snow and set to manu.... what's that... is there an echo in here

put an object where you will stand and.......nevermind!

No one heard of a wireless remote then? :)

yesssssssssss but where do you hide it before the 2sec shutter delay ?.....

Dig a little hole in the snow, put something padded in it, drop it in? I can think of other places too, but they are NSFW, and might reduce the second hand value of the wireless remote.

Or increase it depending on the forum you sell it on :naughty:

AliB's suggestion is a good one (i.e decent aperture and manual focus), My guess it you want to preserve the snow scene and not have too many foot prints.

With all this advice you should get a good picture - make sure you post it here, just so we can see if it worked! :D

can i just ask - why in the snow, especially when it -X' outside?

i would personally wait a few more months until it is warmer :)

I have always found that whenever I am doing a nude self portrait, I have to get my exposure spot on.

As well as manual focus, set the exposure manually (with about a stop of compensation, for the snow and your delicate complexion). This is so you don't have to faff about with fitting the viewfinder cover (to avoid stray light affecting the metering) just before you dive to your position.

Id offer my assistance.. but think id get lost in the offers!! lol..

A friend of mine did the whole rolling around in the snow in the nude thing, that apparently Bear Grylls has done, and he claimed it was rather refreshing. He also shot a video of it, which I've thankfully not seen. Might be pleasingly liberating.

Sorry, that doesn't help with this shoot. Over-expose for snow. I read that on here somewhere.

a good shout is to stand where you're gonna stand with the tripod already set up, then focus on the tripod put it back and then fire, all prefocussed beautifully ;)

Dont forget the hot flask of tea.

Wait,i,m running to catch the train.:woot::exit::D

I think there will be a lots of togs, out with their cameras in the Leicestershire countryside tommorow :naughty:

FAST
wear really warm stuff and dont take it off till you know the shutter will fire soon....

I tried and failed miserably today. Not making excuses, I took every bit of advice on board but the snow was falling in such big fat flakes and the camera focused on those. 350D using the remote and 30D on self timer plus different lenses but to no avail :shake:

If anyone local is serious about helping me with this I’d really appreciate the assistance. Are you willing to come and shoot me, nude in the snow? :help:

not that far from you realy, have traveled further, if you get stuck p.m me. to see what can be arranged
