If you go into our local M&S intent upon the purchase of a pair of men's socks soon after they've refilled the display, you can choose from 71 different pairs - each of which is available in various sizes.

If you go onto their website and search for men's socks, you have more choice.

115 different pairs.

Of socks.

For blokes ...

I'm sensing that your brain is about to implode.

Breathe. ...breathe.....
:-)

Don't keep us in suspense which did you choose?

Non issue. I just buy a dozen pairs of identical black socks when necessary, and toss the previous batch out. No need to make sure they match when I get dressed.

And yet I went with a simple requirement for a pair of XL hipsters and amidst the mass of briefs, slips, trunks and boxers, not one pair could I find.

And not sure why I sounded like Yoda in that last bit.

Dressing like a pro! I've been doing this for years too - I got bored pairing socks after laundry and realized that "there is a better way".

Now I can devote more time to running a small business or skiing. [spot the reference]

Ive also employed this method (y)

No need to confuse things, right?

I only get a selection of 70 online but was pleasantly surprised that they stock size 12-14 :)

Am I missing something here? Going into M&S to buy socks? Never done that. I have an assistant that does those chores for me. She buys my y-fronts as well (Other designs are available). And jim jams.

M&S is a once in a year visit to buy an Xmas pressie of slippers, pyjamas and dressing gown. "Did you keep the receipt?"

Why would I want to go in there more than that?

Exactly. That's why I was in M&S looking at the socks :)

My current socks came from Makro! 10 pairs for a fiver IIRC and they fit. Even fading across them all so far (actually, they've all kept their colour rather than visibly fading, although they are quite "sheddy", much like the cat...) Kex come from Primark, again cheap, comfortable and in multi packs. Can't be doing with shopping for clothes but can handle going out to buy stuff! I know what I want and where to go to get it, just a case of picking it up off the shelf and paying for it (possibly after trying it on in the case of jeans [Matalan, Wranglers]).

I guess this thread stuck in my mind today........I bought lots of socks! :D:eek:

I've got black, brown, blue and white socks. I think socks should match the colour of your shoes. But only in one size so I can comprehend my selection.

Same here, and also if you get a hole in one ( no golf jokes please :( )
you can chuck it out and keep the other, sooner or later you will end up with an even pair again ;)

So when you wear traditional brogues, you have brown / tan socks with holes in them?
:p

Do you iron your socks first before you try and wedge your feet in?

Or do you just put them in any old how?

Colour dear cobra. Colour. Not texture, I don't have leather socks either ;)

Now when I wear my snake skin cowboy boots ...

I tend to put my feet through the hole, toes first :p

You can save even more time by not bothering to search for black socks in the first place. And save on stress by not caring if they match. So long as you remember that it's one sock per foot, that's all that really matters.

According to Debretts guide for the modern gentleman, your socks dont *have* to match your shoes, your trousers, or anything else. They can be any colour you like. Of course that also means if you want to match them with your shoes or trousers then go you ahead.
Of course your belt and wallet should match your shoes, goes without saying.

I only own one wallet (a billfold actually) - so this would somewhat limit my choice of footwear.
Belt definitely needs to match shoes though.

If I'm wearing swimshorts, I ditch the belt.

Braces all the way. It's a great look.

Its a b****r when you're wearing flip-flops though isnt it.
When casual that wearing thongs is ok, then surely no belt is required. Well not unless you wear socks in your thongs.

You can actually get socks to wear with flip flops though. They're traditional in Japan, and known as tabi socks, but they're available in the UK. Up to you...:D

Excellent. Are they white terry cotton socks similar to what I wear with my Jesus sandals?

Up to your knees, I hope. Nobody wants to see your bare manly calves - it might cause quite a sensation amongst the ladies.

Mrs Nod sometimes wears socks with individual toes when it's cold and she's doing her Yoga practise. They fit her like a pair of gloves...

Gloves are for hands, I wonder what the foot equivalent is though ?
Hooves? :D
