I have a Sekonic L-358, and I want to set some remotely triggered speedlights to be 2 stops above ambient.

I'm currently going to set the meter to corded flash and take a reading without the speedlights firing, then take another reading and fire the flashes, while keeping the meter button held down the meter will give me the EV difference.

Go to the speedlights and adjust power, then do the whole thing again until I get the 2 stops above ambient.

It sounds a bit of a trial and error way of doing it, and would like to ask if this is the correct way to achieve the 2 stop above ambient I require.

Sounds right

But if you want to be particular about it, I would take an ambient (incident) reading with the meter at the subject position pointing towards the camera, then one pointing towards the main light source (sun/sky?) and split the difference if there is any.

Then switch on the flash and take a reading pointing at the gun.

Doesn't the 358 have a function where it will give both ambient and flash readings simultaneously? Might be interesting to compare, but I'd go with the first method if in doubt.

Cheers

I thought I had it about right.

Yes I think the bottom scale on the meter, gives an ambient reading, a flash reading and a combined reading.
