This 16TB drive was originally reported as a problem on the American Amazon site but I have just had a look at the British site and it's here too. Basically, it's supposedly a 16TB external hard drive but is in fact a 64GB USB 2.0 micro SD card installed on a circuit board acting as a USB-adapter. It sells for £99 but contains ten quid's worth of SSD card.

Amazon does itself no favours when they let this happen and it makes one wonder how many other things on there are not what they claim to be. Personally, I'm starting to move away from Amazon as the downsides are starting to exceed the upsides and buy stuff, especially photography stuff, from other reputable dealers.

But it isn't actually an Amazon scam it is just another scam happening on the Amazon platform. If you think that is bad stay away from EBay

Amazon for sure IMO have some questionable third party merchants using their platform and when found out, they need to be reported.

However, Amazon are the 800lb gorilla of online retailing so possibly treat such situations as of little damage to them because they have a very robust return & refund policy for buyers.

i bought a generator a couple of years back that packed in pretty quickly, contacted amazon and they told us it was a third party seller , we contacted them and at first tried to say we needed to get an engineer to assess the damage, i did that and payed £225 for the pleasure, for the seller to say, your out of the return period, amazon didnt want anything to do with it, royaly ripped off

Sorry I should have been more explicit......
I won't buy anything from the site that doesn't say 'Sold by Amazon' AND 'Despatches from Amazon', that way I have no doubt with whom I'm dealing.
........as above in regard to third party merchants i.e. always "dispatched from Amazon" though sold by A N Other.

In the few cases I have had issues, Amazon have taken responsibility for sorting it out. And FWIW in most of those the supplier was well engaged in making sure satisfaction was assured.

Though @Brendan Mulachy in your case it 100% the third party i.e. dispatched & sold by 'Bloggs &Co'

it was from a industrial unit in Glasgow that looked like down town Beirut ( im in Liverpool), i was very tempted to drag it up there as ive family from not far away, but getting arrested over £1600 isn't worth it, i dont want it to sound racist but there was a distinct "i dont speak English" when i phoned to say i had a return , but weirdly they answered in perfectly good English when they answered the phone ;), deffo a once bitten twice shy situation and ive bought stuff off amazon since but not for anything expensive and i check out the seller a bit more

I have bought from the Amazon market place and was not particularly worried as I paid Amazon so my contract is with Amazon. On the couple of occasions, I had a problem with the goods Amazon refunded fairly quickly. Just last month I ordered a replacement Dyson battery from e-bay that turned out to be faulty so initiated the return/refund. e-bay said that the seller would send me a label to enable a return. This never happened but e-bay refunded in full within 48 hrs anyway. I then ordered the genuine article from Dyson at twice the price but it works.
