seems interesting

A stepping stone, I suspect. If there is the demand then the functionality will be absorbed as technology converges. A few years ago we didn't have internet TVs. In a few years time we may have fully converged technology that incorporates this sort of connectivity in a single box/camera.

If you've got an Android device and a Canon camera you can buy DSLR Controller for £5.94 and a TP-Link TL-MR3040 for around £30 to do this. The white box in the video looks a lot like it could be a copy of the TP-Link hardware in a different case. If you have a camera with built in WiFi (like the 6D) I think you can connect your Android device and DSLR directly without needing the router.

It's quite a nice thing to have as it frees you from behind the camera and it's great for manual focusing.

Their app looks a bit prettier than DSLR Controller mind and presumably you don't need to do the firmware setup on their router like you do with the TP-Link one.

This I shall be playing with!

the fuji x-t1 does that through an app without the need for an external device. it's a pretty nice feature to have, whether built in or through a device like this. i've only used it once, was shooting a bunch of kids on a stage, set the camera up in the middle of the aisle in front of the stage and took a seat a few rows back. the fuji app doesn't let me set times longer than 30 seconds, otherwise i'd be using it a lot more to shoot landscapes after dark.
