Hi,

I've reached the stage where I feel frustrated not having some grads and CP filters.

I have a 450D with Sigma 10-20 and the lens lives on 10mm.

I had been looking at Lee filters but have heard people say that even the 100mm filters cause vignetting at 10mm.

I don't want to compromise on the angle and I don't want to worry about vignetting so wonder if Cokin X is the way to go?

Is there anyone who uses a crop sensor (or full) and a 10mm lens and multi filters that can advise on what I should be using?

Cokin Filters are the same size as Lee. Lee are about to introduce a new set for wide angle lens but not sure when or the cost
 
With very wide angles like you are talkng about you are going ot get the EFFECT of vignetting because the light is travelling through the filter at such an angle that even the thickness of the resin is going ot make a difference - the edge light will travel through more resin than the centre and therefore you will lose a bit of light and it will give a vignetted look - slight reduction in exposure. The only way this can be overcome is if the filter makers start to make very thin filters - then flatness is going to become an issue because they will likely distort in our bag unless very carefully looked after.
 
Thanks for the comments guys. It would seem the Lee system is the way to go.

However, noticed a lack of stock ...... anyone know anything about this and when it will be resolved?

I've just purchased a Cokin P ND grad set, together with a "Wide Angle Holder" and 77mm Adapator ring for my Sigma 10-20mm & 17-55mm.

Does this mean that I won't be able to use the Cokin filters at 10mm even with the Wide Angle Holder? I thought the WAH was supposed to tackle this issue.
 
Lee had a problem with the tool last year & although replaced stock does not appear to have built back up. Some suppliers do have stock, Speed Graphic did have some as they sold some to a friend very recently. The Lee are all hand made to the highest quality & I have seen this first hand as they are 3 miles from where I live.

Best move I ever did moving from Cokin to Lee, the Cokin always gave a magenta tint.

If anyone is interested in the new Lee Big Stopper (new 10 stop filter), I am inform by a friend who couldnt make his mind up 2 weeks ago when I got mine they are out of stock now as they didnt expect to sell so many after the launch at FOCUS until end of April.

I think these people are probably not using the wide angle adaptor ring. I used Lee on my Sigma 10-20 at 10mm and no vignette. Just make sure you get the 77mm Wide Angle adaptor ring as opposed to the 77mm standard.

I'm not sure what size the P is but based on other comments, with the correct holder it should be OK with one filter fitted.

I have been convinced that a CPL is not really a good idea on a SWA as the light comes in from such differeing agles over the range, so probably just a ND grad. There will be times but how many times will you need more than one ND grad at a time?

The Lee supply does seem to be a common enough problem and one I'll just have to live with - apparently patience is good for you!

I have heard that a welders mask glass makes a very good 10 stop filter - though suspect the colour cast may be 'interesting'. Might give it a go though .....

I have purchased an extra Wide Angle Holder, and a 77mm adaptor ring. I thought this was all that was needed?

I didn't even realise there was a 77mm Wide angle adaptor ring?? Isn't that what the wide angle holder is for???

Does it say 77mm S.W.A on the adaptor ring? I'll take a pic of mine and post it in a minute.

I'm ordering a P series WA holder and 72mm adapter ring for my Sigma 17-70
will I need a WA ring, and where are they available ?

I've just read the above posts properly now:lol::bonk: The pic i have put up is of a LEE adaptor ring. I'm not sure what the equivalent is on the Cokin series but if you're shooting with a wide angle lens then it makes sense to use a wide angle ring. If they do such a thing.

just downloaded the product manual from the Cokin site. They list a WA HOLDER but not a WA ring. WA HOLDERS are available from Bristol Cameras BTW

My mistake above....

in the Cokin series "P" I cannot find a WA adapter ring like the Lee one pictured above

I dont know, and doubt, if a Cokin WA Holder will fit on a Lee WA adapter ring ----anybody ??

so if you need a WA setup for the 10mm focal length, you may have to buy a Lee WA Holder and a Lee WA adapter ring = ££££ I think
