Seeing Spots?

Yes
Bought my Eos 400D as a little christmas present for myself, so i've had it for 7 months now.

Been out tonight to get some (supposedly) arty night time shots, but upon closer inspection there are quite a few little spots.

I've had my run in with dust and hairs, this is different, these are blue & white spots, very small, but very noticable.

Now, i'm guessing i have some sort of warrenty with either Curry's, or Canon themselves, but i want to know how to describe the problem & if my camera is broken, will i get it back, or is it shot?

Is there anything i can do to fix it?

These spots are still visable on other shots, but i hadnt noticed them in day time shots, they just stood out a lot in the evening light.

Below is a photo as an example, and below that the same photo with arrows (not the best i know) pointing to these dots, and below that a close up.

Thanks,

Mark.

Should be able to spot a few of them a bit better in this shot...

I checked your ISO, only 100 so its not noise, it must be a sticky pixel, take it back to curry's and see if they will do anything about it otherwise send it to canon on warranty

also, your images need to be 800px at the longest length, the pixel police will come along and turn them into links if you dont change it btw...

you have been warned ;)

Mark,

Sorry, I have to disagree with David on this one. A 30 second exposure is going to push any sensor to the limit and certain pixels are going to show.

Have a read of this little article and it should put your mind at rest.

I agree with Bob

I not sure about the red arrows I have never seen this before :D id send it back

BTW I had a fault and curry's although I took insurance out with them, cheaky gits (I got a renewal today HA Ha for what ) didnt want to know when I took it back to the shop they said send it back to canon, sent it back elstree came back better than new, big cheers to canon, great fast service there fixed and back 5 days :clap::clap:

Currys NIL Points

Yea, just looks like heat noise to me. If you use the long exposure noise reduction it should do a decent job of getting rid of them, or you can do it manually with dark frames and the like.

And Bob, surely it's the CMOS being pushed to the limit, he's not using one of those out-dated Nikon contraptions. :p

Phew, so its not a fault as such then.

Thanks for that!

Was getting worried.

Mark could you take a long exposure shot looking at a cloudy sky (NOT the sun) or something white needs to be over exposed. The dark blobs could be specs of dust on the sensor. Although these cameras have cleaning systems they're not always 100% efficient.

Post it once its done please

Agree with rest on coloured pixels,

Trev

could it be tiny imperfections in the glsss of the lens causing light reflection? just s guess

If it's pixel noise it'll show up after long exposures, if it's a dead/stuck pixel it'll show up at any shutter length.

Set the camera to full manual with a quick shutter speed then take a shot with the lens cap on, if you still see the spots let Canon have it back :)

(I had the same problems on my Casio QV-R40)

Strange as i rarely get noise like that when i am doing 5 minute exposures with my 400d, Especially if i am at 100 ISO
