I am getting close to the 'upgrade time' of my mobile computing devices.
This has nothing to do with main workhorse unit that should be fine for another couple years.
Currently I have C2D 2.4GHz 4GB 500GB 15" MBP (2007) with crappy battery. Runs PS and LR but just... and has to be plugged in. And a bit heavy. Useless for travel which is what it is meant for. Was real pain in US with it.
And there is iPad 3 32GB. Only used as web terminal on travels, note taking device in conferences and business presentation tool (very occasional). I note there is iPad5 coming out, so is it going to lose any remaining residual value it's got left...?
I had a look at W8 hybrids. Requirements - 8GB, 256GB or more, IPS with >90% sRGB coverage, over 10" to 13". Surprise surprise - there is only one sony at £1600. Why on earth would I buy sony/M$ instead of rMBP?! No chance in hell. I don't have plans to spend that money either right now, when I need 70-200 II a lot more.
So that leaves me with 13" MBP. Probably 2011-12 scavenge from ebay to make it cheap as possible as I don't like their design to start with. Certainly I hate that screen. Will they still have 5+ hr battery life? That is the main consideration here. Will that replace iPad or not?
A good 13" rMBP scavenge would be ideal but not very realistic under £800, is it?
Anything else I missed?
