I know there's a thread here http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/used-camera-gear-the-suppliers-list.30638/ for second-hand suppliers, but I was wondering if there are any you think are particularly good for film gear (especially vintage stuff - I'm looking at folders again, and I'm thinking the dealer premium might be a good thing to pay for an older camera). I check Mifsuds and Ffordes.

Specifically, there's a site out there that I've followed links to from here that's basically a long list of inventory of older film cameras, with product descriptions and prices and not a lot else, but I can't for the life of me remember the URL.

Is it Peter Loy, very well established and reliable so I'm led to believe.

I've used MW Classic a few times, they're not always top quality cameras but they refund if not as described. But they do often some really interesting cameras.

There's also Camerex in Exeter.
Address: Unit 2/The Space Pl/Alphinbrook Rd/Marsh Barton Trading Estate, Exeter EX2 8RG
Phone:01392 270717
Very rarely open when I drive past but AFAIK they're still trading and may well just use their "shop" unit as storage rather than manning it full time. IIRC they have a Facebook presence and might be worth a look.

I can vouch for cameraworld. Theyre my local shop, well staffed and always have a decent selection of film gear in.

I have bought film stuff from
Peter Loy;
Peter Walnes; and
The Vintage and Classic Camera Co.
all of which I would happily by from again and recommend to others.

I have tried to buy from MW Classic but that was a nightmare. Despite apparently buying a lens from their website I had no contact from them with instructions to pay for over a week. When I eventually heard from them the lens was sold. The same lens remained on their website for the next 3 weeks. I gave up trying to buy from them.

I also tried to buy from MW Classic but failed to even get past the checkout... Not sure what happens but I gave up in the end, a shame because they have some nice kit at what seems to be a reasonable price. Next time I may give them a bell first.

Vintage and Classic are excellent as well, never had a problem with the descriptions on there in fact they undersell a bit I think. I bought a Nikon 24mm f2.8 from them that they described as about 92% but it was almost like new when it arrived, spotless.

MWClassic use a rather archaic e-commerce package, that doesn't really tell you if someone else has bought the item, if the item has been removed (it won't explicitly tell you that it has been removed whilst you had it in your basket), and the checkout system isn't really a checkout system - you can't pay, it's only a way of getting the owners at MWClassic to generate an invoice. This is especially problematic because it's very easy for two+ people to 'buy' and for both of them to think they have bought the product, since the products are taken down off the website manually.

They sell stuff at good prices but they move a lot of kit - definitely a market for that.

I agree it is one of the most frustrating websites to use, something it has in common with a lot of other secondhand camera websites. I usually find it easier if I spot something I want I'll just call them and ask if it's still in stock, saves a lot faffing about, it's quicker too..

There is also http://www.arundel-photographica.co.uk, though you can't buy online. And despite living eight miles away from there for the last twenty years I have never been there. In fact only discovered it was there a couple of weeks ago!

Ditto. Their offices are chock full of cameras and gear, so you can understand why they struggle to keep on top of their stock!

There's a place in Leeds too or so I hear...
