Wasn't sure where to put this, so thought I'd put it in here as there are often good opinions floating about

Been looking for a Nikon 400mm f2.8 for a while now and have been checking all the usual places; Fixation, Grays, MPB, Mifsuds, eBay, Gumtree.

Someone also suggested Craig's List UK. And lo and behold I've seen a couple pop up.

Now these lenses are going for what can only be described as a bargain, which has straight away made me suspicious. Plus, a couple of grey ones there too!!

Here's a link to some of them. http://london.craigslist.co.uk/search/?areaID=24&subAreaID=&query=Nikon+400mm+f2.8&catAbb=sss

Having contacted a couple turns out at least two of them are up in Scotland, one in Ayr the other Inverness.

What do you guys think? Deals of the century? Scam?

Apologies if they are being sold by someone on here, or someone on here was looking at them, and I have just let the cat out of the bag.

Suspicious doesn't even start to cover it for me. Way too good to be true. The only way to consider it would be with 3 very large friends to go with you! Anyone who was genuine would see from a number of places that these are under priced - 4 separate listings, all bargains that no-one has snapped up?

Mike

p.s. if they are genuine please let me know as I'll buy all 4 and sell them for a nice profit!

Aperture has the Nikon 400mm f2.8 AF-I ED for £2,850. Mpb had the Nikon 400mm f/2.8D AF-S ED-IF II for £3,399 the other week, but it sold. There was the newest VR version on Gumtree Glasgow as recently as last week, but the guy was asking a ridiculous price (£5,700) and when he listed it on ebay it only got to £4,300. Keep your eyes peeled I've got a feeling it might pop up again soon.

As for those on Craigslist, I'd steer clear.

It's a scam. I was in the same boat as you about 18 months ago. I knew it was a scam but thought I would e-mail just to see what I got back. I asked the right questions that confirmed it for me.

I looked for 6 months for a 400 2.8 and one finally cropped up on eBay for the right price. Best decision I ever made and confirmed patience is the name of the game with this.

If you think that is too pricey then you obviously don't know the value of the lens. Good luck finding a good condition one cheaper.
