Hi guys this is my first post to this forum but I've been following it for a few weeks now. Just wondering seeing as I'm reading some very good advice if anyone knows a good place may it be online or in the Manchester area to find some second hand lenses?
I'm just looking for some more (preferably quicker) lenses to play with in the hope that one day I can make a living from photography with a few years practise under my belt.
Hope you can help.
Chris.

Great stuff thanks guys. Hoping for a 24-70mm but they all seem to be a fortune!!!

Chris.

Check "Ffordes" on the net. I've bought stuff from them and never had a problem.

Here they are...

http://www.ffordes.com/

I bought a 2nd hand 24-70mm from Ffordes, arived with the manual ring jammed in position, rang up to complain and was told it was fine on posting, which was nonsense as there was no sign of damage to the packaging and I'd spotted it within 2min of opening the pack. Was sent back for repair (really should've just had it returned), it came back with the focus ring repaired (took 2 weeks) only for me to find that the barrel 'drooped' at 24mm, asked for a refund and was told no, so went back for a 2nd repair (you get 6 months warranty on your purchase), this one took about 10 weeks.
Eventually sold the lens to a local camera shop, as I was never entirely happy, and made a £200 loss - didn't want to sell privately as it wouldn't sit comfortably selling on a poor lens to another forum member.

I'd like to give a shout for Walters of Merthyr Tydfil. I got a used Canon 70-200 L 2.8 IS from them last year. Good price, outstanding service, 12 month free warranty (dunno if they're still offering this). Highly recommended.

Buught a few lenses from MPB up to now. No issues and you'd be hard pushed to tell them apart from new. First rate service aswell.

I guess I've just been lucky then. IMVHO the measure of any company is how they react to customer issues but in your position I wouldn't have messed about with repairs, I'd have had a replacement or my money back.

In hindsight so would I. At the time, prices were creeping up, so it seemed I'd bagged a decent deal, and I needed the lens to shoot a wedding. Ended up borrowing a mate's copy, which I later used as reference to show how the barrel 'droop' was having an effect on image quality.
