Second hand Lens question

I have bid on a lens on fleabay and the seller has provided a serial number of the item, is there any way of telling from the number more about it like from which country its from and the date of manufacture.

Hey Del!
not sure if the serial has info in it unless its an L lens. Take it we are talking Canon.
If so check this linky. You really need the code by the lens mount for useful info.
