I'm looking to buy a used canon 1D mk2 canon body soon and a 100-400mm lens (probably from ebay).

What do you reckon these are going for just now? I'm thinking around £800 for each of them. Do you think this is realistic?

Also, would you rather have a new Canon 7D or a used Canon 1D mk 2? Because I'm toying with the idea of a new 7D instead.

Thanks for any advice.

What subjects do you mainly shoot? The prices seem realistic, but the sensor format will always depend on what sort of subjects you shoot.

You might have to pay a bit more for the 100-400 but a lot less for a 1dmk2, there is no way I would pay £800 for a mk2 unless it war a really nice low count N model, I would be lookin at no more than £550 for a mk2.

They can honestly come that cheap? I thought all 1D's were basically thousands of pounds. Christ you've got me excited now :naughty::thinking:

1D mkII's are going for around £500-£600 but the N is more like £800 and a mkIII for around £1200.

The 100-400 would be under 1k.

(probably from ebay).

Keep your eye out on the classifieds on this forum. I personally wouldn't buy camera's or lens's off the bay, as you have no idea as to their history etc. Buy from here with confidence that fellow photographers have owned it, who will generally look after their stuff well.

I paid £525 for a M2 (1D) recently on e-bay, high mileage ~100K actuations but all seems fine with it, couple of small marks but nothing serious.

Thanks for the advice.

Just picked up a Canon 1D Mk 2 for £565 on ebay. Quite pleased, I think it will be a lot of camera for that money. It will be great to have better AF for in-flight bird shots.

Right now for a new lens.........:)

You outbidded me :bat:

Probably for the best, I haven't really got £565 at the moment :dummy:

you're going to enjoy that MkII and it's probably a bargain at that price  Bodies just don't hold their value nowadays.

It went very quickly :D

I paid £850 (inc postage) for my 100-400 and it is mint, really very chuffed with it.
However, I was watching 4 or 5 other before I bid on this, and they all ended circa £1k.

Be patient, stick to your limit and you could bag a bargain. (as you have on the 1D!!)

Wow you really are pretty lucky, there are several 1D mrk ii on ebay all over £1,000 with about 17 bids Yours seems a good price

I got my 100-400 off a pro tog who advertised it in EOS classifieds.
Went to inspect / collect about 20 miles away from me.
Mint example, £750 collected, cash on the nail.

Bought my 1DmkII from a pro tog in Canterbury via fleabay, £640 collected.
High mileage but mint, works a treat.
After my bid won, we exchanged emails. Eventually agreed on collection and a brown envelope. I got a bit off as he avoided some fees :D

Aah so it was a one off, your post sounded as though you were suggesting this was the common secondhand price.
As I said, they do come around that price but yet to see one that is not very used and abused.

There is one on ebay at the moment for around £1200, but it looks abused.

Thanks for the help.

I managed to get both a 1D Mk2 and a 100 - 400mm lens off ebay for a grand total of £1465. Got them both this morning. Absolutely chuffed with them.:)

I have to really struggle to see anything wrong with either. I have to say these are probably the biggest bargains I've got out of all my gear. If anyone is thinking of getting a 1d Mk2 I would say go for the prices on ebay are so good at the moment and you get loads of quality camera for your money.

Right next step a 5D........

Sold my 100 - 400 on e-bay last week for £842.
Bought it from Kerso originally 16 months ago for £849!!!!
Only lost out on the postage.

Cheers Paul.

Don't forget their commision Paul!

You still didn't lose out much.

True, I'm still not complaining though, unfortunately never had enough posts on here to sell in the classified section :nono:.

Cheers Paul.
