Yes, we all know that your main camera is the bee's knees, the dog's bo***cks etc.

But let's hear it for your trusty back-up

What you got and why'd you get it?

(I've yet to get one, btw :()

I'm no pro so don't need a back up camera, but I do have an EOS 1n as a second camera, got it because I fancied a film camera and it came up at the right price ;)

Upgraded from bridge camera(coolpix 8800)to D60 and kept the 8800. Usually have long zoom on D60 for motorsport but back up is great for wide shots without having to change lenses in a hurry.

canon 30D

reason it was the right price i can not afford another FF camera

and they are still very good cameras:thumbs:

md:thumbs:

Nikon D70s, my first dSLR and still my baby

D300 does the donkey work, but the 70s is always there ready and waiting for emergencies, use by Mr Yv and young Miss Yv, fitting a different lens when its easier to have two bodies on the go than keep changing lenses. Just a great all round camera

I have a minolta Z2... I haven't used it in a while, but the kids use it. Never thought to carry it with me as a backup.

don't really have a back up, got two cameras which both get used :)

Not a backup but 2nd body, so thats 2 1dmIIn's both same set up & both used.

I have an E-510 as my second body. Great little backup camera too.

My second, back-up, spare, call it what you will is my trusty D2hs, though it doesnt get used much if it all now since I got a D3, most of the time it now sits on a self looking pretty.

I bought a d1x off here as a second body because it would use the same lens, flashes, remote etc. It was the right price and I can stick it in the car's boot or take it to work. I really like it and it takes a great picture.

D300 as backup, D3 as main body. I don't think I'll ever upgrade again (so she says) and having worked my way up to these bodies, I'll have them for (life) a while.
I enjoy motorsports and the D3 is fast and very accurate with a long lens, the D300 will have the shorter lens for pit walks etc.

only ever played with two cams once and that was a 450d as a second to a 50d, I love the experience, shame my 50d doesn't share batteries with a 20d or I would be saving for one

It does use the same batteries

I love all my cameras!

i don't see any as "back ups" just good friends to fall back on:lol:

nah, I just interchange all the time. switching between a 40d to a praktica to a hassy to a bessa!

I have a 1D Mk II as backup. It gets dragged out when I need to trade quality for speed (although that's quite rare) or when the 1Ds stops working like it did in the snow for a day in Scotland in January.

I like it as the look and feel are identical.

well i had a fujifilm s5700 then bought a nikon D40 and then bought a samsung p+s for everyday and finally got a D90

still got all the old ones , dont know wether to sell the D40 or keep it as a spare

D2x and D200 both get used about the same, generally setup to run the 100-300 on the d2x and the 50-150 on the d200 makes life easy to be able to swap cameras rather than lenses

My second body is another 40D, got a great deal on it at Focus this year, both the 40DD's get used equaly as much.

since i upgraded to the sony A700,my A350 has become my second body..just in case etc..although i would love to have either another A700,or the new A900 for it's full frame goodness, but that won't be any time soon as i'm skint

Mines a 350D backup to a 40D , my first DSLR still gets used too :)
I've begun to realise that the lens is what matters most anyway :D

I use a 20D as a back up, but only because that was my main camera before and I've kept it.

Thinking I needed a backup, I kept my old Canon G6 which was capable of taking decent images, but I found I never needed it so sold it recently.

Just waiting for sods law to pay me a visit now:lol:

D300 backup to my D2Xs, mainly for the sodding dark arse-hole places some of our brides keep booking :bang:

I priced up a change to D3s, but with all lenses etc. too it'd cost around £15,000 to swap

So IMHO - they can bloody well book better venues or accept some noise as a 'feature' of their Wedding

ive got a panasonic lumix tz4 good zoom, nice size and good quality.

This thread brings back unpleasant memories for me. My daughter borrowed /nicked my beloved 400D which I had used as my travel camera.I miss it beyond reason.Just a terrific all round cam that took some of my favourite pictures.I loved its size---when gripped it was beautifully balanced. For sure its not the best sports or low light camera but it did 90% of what I wanted brilliantly.Actually daughter has it with my blessing---I just miss the bloody thing !
My second camera nowadays is a Panny TZ4----a half decent tool that I recommend-----but my old 400D---aaagghhhh.
Pete.

D70 for me. Was my first DSLR and was kept as a backup to a D200. When I upgraded to a D700, I kept the D70 and flogged the D200 on since I prefer the feel of the D70 over that of the D200. Not really a backup but more a 2nd body - the FF D700 gives truly wide angles and the Dx D70 gives the 1.5x crop for longer work. If I only take 1 body, it's the D700 that comes with me - I can live with cropping!

Hmm...

I'm not actually sure which one is the main and which is the backup!

400d backs the 1d for sports/ animals

1d dacks the 400d for portraits/ slower moving stuff.

Did look at upgrading to a mk11 but just cant justify the expense.
