Simply as above really. On other electrical battery powered items I'd remove the batteries if not being used regularly, but does this apply to a camera? I've never come across a report of any problems but it seemed worth asking

many thanks

I tend to leave the battery in and never had any problems. Maybe you might loose your camera settings if left out for some time

How long are we talking? If it's just a week or so I wouldn't worry. You'll know if the battery is draining when the camera is off if it's depleted a bit since you last used it. If the battery is still full after not using it for a while then it's fine. If you're noticing a drop each time you power it up, then maybe store the batter separately.

Thanks both so do I it just struck me maybe there is a reason why I shouldn't that hadn't sprung to mind.
Steve Bazza appreciated thank you very much

Cheers Keith....... more than a week or two. I have a 1DXii which is my primary body. I've kept my older 1div,but as yet don't really have a second lens to pair it with,so essentially my mark iv is just sat idle. I appreciate battery could drain be an issue and would be easily checked I've never come across a case of a canon battery leaking ,or maybe other issues I haven't thought of. There is so much experience here Keith folks whom have been doing this for yonks where as I am relatively new.

Steven thanks again for the link....I'll dig through this, but right off the bat they recomend battery removal, everything else is in place including dessicant................. food for thought !!!!

cheers both

Yeah, but they include batteries for speedlights in that statement... i.e. alkaline AA's, which really should be removed. They also say to drain the camera batteries before storage... not sure I agree with that.
