seatbelt alarms

Surely the interior is just as cold sat in a stationary car

It would warm up quicker if you drove off.

The engine is on whilst i am sat there obviously warming up the car. By the time the children enter the car the is warm.

They still warm up quicker being driven than just sitting there.

Just an update, my car is back from the garage and there was a fault with the seatbelt alarm which is now fixed.

cheers

Are you sure you weren't in the 'garage' being 'fixed' during your 'suspension' ;)

Yes I realise that if I drove the car around it would warm up more quickly, but thats not as relaxing as sitting for 10 mins with a cuppa and the paper
Suprised you haven't had a toilet installed, you'd be in your element then.

Hmmm. Buy an economical "better for the environment" car, then leave it running on the drive for 10 minutes each day...... :D

Extension cable, fan heater, no pumping out pollutants while you sit there avoiding the wife and kids...

1. my children only go to nursery 2 days in a week
2. I only do this when it is very cold i.e. 3 months of the year max

So how big an effect do you think this has on the amount of fuel I use leaving my car running for an extra 4 hours each year?

I also never bought it because it was better for the environment. I bought it for fuel efficiency and zero car tax

And how many MPG is it doing while it's sat ticking over?

Lets see

I read that "For every two minutes a car is idling, it uses about the same amount of fuel it takes to go about one mile" So my 240 minutes of idyling is the same as going 120 miles.

Since my car averages 68.9 mpg combined. Then it is around 2 gallons of fuel or 9 litres. £1.35 a litre costs me £12.15 a year

So yup, fine with me

That's a VAG claimed figure. Nowhere near in the real world ;)

and yet it would seem to be very accurate. I have maps and more which monitors my fuel efficency and the figures seem spot on since I got the car in december

henceforth I'll stick with my above estimate. Even if it were wrong and I got 40mpg combined then we'd still only be talking about £18 in cost for the year

What was the cause of the problem and how did they fix it?

I don't know. Have no interest in such details, all I care about is that it is fixed .

Would you like the number of the garage to ring and ask?

Best online long term tests returned a figure of 62.8 mpg.
Majority of others are between 55-59 mpg.

You gave me the wrong number, Scrivens. :D

BTW, although she didn't know anything about the beeping, Barbara's only just getting over the cramp from last time and asked if you've got a proper car yet. She sounded dirty, Joe. I'm shocked.

You could buy coats for the kids.
