Hi there.

Whilst trying to remove a child seat from the back of a Nissan Primera tonight, I have experienced a major problem!

Apparently Nissan have a 'child restraint' (known as ALR) mechanism on their seatbelts. Basically, this means that the belt locks and no more can be retracted until the belt has been put right back and then pulled out again.

At present it's not possible to put the belt back, as half of it is still wrapped around the child seat. It's also not possible to get the child seat out (currently on its side on the back seat) as the belt is too tight and I cannot release any more ! Hence the problem ....

Does anyone know of another way of 'unlocking' the belt? Will it cost much to replace a belt if i cut it?

Been out in the cold for 90mins trying to sort this - very pe'ed off!!

Still - every cloud has a silver lining, I'd have been colder last week before the TP fleece arrived ;)

Cheers

If it's a fairly new car then it'll cost you plenty to replace it. Can you get in at it to unbolt the mechanism from the car?

It's a W reg mate.

Could arguably unbolt the mechanism - but not too much as the casing of the seat would prevent me from actually getting it out!

I know some of the lads at Kwik fit fairly well, so gonna have a chat with them in the morning!

Probably get a belt out the scrappy for £10-15 these days, mind you if it's just a rear lap belt then a fiver might do it...

I'm not sure I understand the problem? Belt jammed. Could the belt be undone at the other end? Then extract the seat and sort the problem out.

That's what I'm suggesting. I assume it's just held by the central lap belt, so there must be a way of unbolting one end, lifting the seat and unbolting the other, I would have thought

how is it trapped on the childseat? does the seat angle forward to allow more space to remove the belt

Don't seatbelts have those special bolts that are supposed to be replaced once you've removed them (Like the seat bolts in my old Astra)

Can you get to the seatbelt mechanism? It seems they often have a child-seat mode (from my googling).

Cheers folks -

Job done - after a lot of hassle.

Removed rear set cushion, unbolted seat belt. Removed seat belt. Struggled unjamming seat belt from baby seat. Finally did it 90mins later. Replaced seat belt bolt and rear seat. Told the wife I was now a mechanic - got a big kiss!

Happy days!
