FWIW I've just been talking to two different courier-type chaps, and word in their line of business is that apart from problems caused by a fire in one of their depots, Hermes are short of lorry drivers (both trunkers and depot-to-delivery drivers' homes) and they have mountains of stuff backed up. And to add to their problems as admitted to in the media, Yodel have another one in certain parts of the country - it seems that some police forces are targetting delivery drivers (i.e. the muppets who actually deliver your parcel) outside the depots in order to check that their insurance covers them for parcel carrying, which apparently it very rarely does. And of course a lot of the cheapo carriers like Collect Plus use Yodel ...

The answer to the question as to which one they'd use to send a parcel now is RM, Parcelfarce, UPS, DHL or DX.

ETA - sorry Daryl, I just realised I should have tacked this on to your whinge

The problem for the 'muppets' that do the final mile for the likes of Hermes and Yodel is that genuine hire and reward courier insurance costs over £1,500 per year and seeing as they get paid rather poorly for every parcel they deliver, it's simply beyond practical for them to take out full H&R cover. If we didn't have the likes of these people doing deliveries then millions of your parcels wouldn't get delivered at all and then you'd be completely stuffed. If they all quit tomorrow then you'd have little choice but to abandon the comfyness of online shopping, get off your fat backsides and, god forbid, be forced to actually walk around town and visit some shops.

And as a parting shot ... how dare you refer to my wife as a 'muppet', you ignorant oaf.

So they choose to drive with invalid insurance. Presumably that's OK by you ...

If you can't see the flaws in your argument, I doubt that my pointing them out would make any difference.

Hah! Very good :)

Happy Christmas.
