Can anybody recommend a good reasonably priced tripod?

I've come to the conclusion that eBay is not the best place for such items.

I'm in the UK and I'm hoping to spend about £50-60. Can I expect anything reasonable for that?

Jessops is a good starting point m8. For the money you have you can get a decent tripod. Try searching google for stores that sell tripods. Mine was from jessops and cant have any complaints.

Thanks Eric. The Redsnapper own brand one looks quite good value although I'm not too bothered about having a lightweight model as it will be used for studio shots indoors.

Stan (oops sorry, Mark), did you go for Jessops own brand? If so which model? The TP327 doesn't look bad. I just checked out the Manfrotto Digi Mini one at nearly £80 and it doesn't look any more robust than the spindly thing I got off eBay.

Hi jim, it is jessops own brand but not sure which model. It was bought for me as a gift sorry. Ill try and find out. Just been looking on jessops site, and would agree the TP327 looks ok. Yes you have to be carefull some priced higher dont look all that great.
Just shop about and try to get some reviews up about the product. Good luck m8.
Let us know what you decide to get.

Well in the end I went for the Redsnapper one as it does seem to be way above the spec for the money. On the downside I didn't realise that the trigger grip was also extra (the same price as the ball mount so effectively doubling the price). I'll let you know what I think when it arrives.

Bad news for anyone else thinking of going the same route. I got the last trigger grip. More stock is apparently six to eight weeks away.

Apparently the ball mount is the more professional item and is also more precise I'm told but obviously you would be making any adjustments to position using the camera body and lens and I'm used to using something with a handle.

I spoke to Joe myself this morning about that very same trigger head but as I needed it by Sunday and he had it at home i went with the ball head instead. Looks like redsnapper are getting a fair bit of business through the forum.

Rivit give it a mth or 2 then maybe we can swap heads for say a week or two then you know if you like the othere head. The ball head can hold more weight i think but the gun grip is much faster to move i would say. As all you do is tuch it and put it any way you like let go and bang its in place. But if ure a pro then maybe the ball head is just as fast i dont know. Anyway you both be happy with what you bought.

Just posted on another thread but just in case anyone is only following this one, I can report that I received the tripod and trigger attachment today and they seem to be really good value for the money.

Also Joe was a nice chap and pleasant to deal with.

Take a look at the Slik 400DX. Good sturdy tripod with decent features, I find mine great for the cost. I paid roughly £60

Yes that looks OK. Doesn't appear quite as well built as the Red Snapper one though. Also if you add a Slik trigger release ball joint it all comes to somewhere over £130.

Whereas the RS package was £97.06 delivered. Time will tell I guess but I'm very happy right now.

I have just ordered one of these red snapper tripods from Joe via ebay.

Decided to bite the bullet as I lost out on a few manfrotto ones on ebay, plus this one looks a good alternative.

Mike

Think I'll be doing the same, although I'm not sure about a ball head as opposed to a more familiar three-way. Good value for udner £100 though. Take it that the gear comes out of the same factory as Gitzo...
