Hi guys,

I have about 60,000 photos on one Lightroom catalogue all nicely key-worded. I would like find the best way of getting them to my iphone and ipad, so that they can be searched by, ideally, meta data and keywords. At the moments I use collections within Lightroom to publish to a directory with various sub directories such as "family Q2 2014 4*+". These are created using smart collections and regular collections. I then sync the IOS device with all the photos in that directory. The problem with this is that it takes some manual clicking to get the collections updated regularly and searching by keywords is not available in IOS Photos.

I have tried the following apps Photoshack, Photosmith, Sortshots and Mosaic, and have found them all to be pretty average, clunky and unreliable.

I would, ideally, have something that automatically uploads a jpeg preview of all my photos to the cloud (maybe filtered by 4* +) with an app that can download all those to my iPhone or iPad for offline viewing and searching. I had high hopes for the LR app, but that seems to be all about editing on the ipad, something I do not need or want to do.

Has anybody found a way of doing what I want to do?

Reading between the lines about the likely specs, it sounds like the forthcoming Aperture replacement, Photos App, from Apple *might* be what you want when it ships with OSX 10.10 and IOS 8.

Yes maybe, although it is not easy to get photos from LR to iphoto so I'm not holding my breath. Does anybody do something I haven't yet mentioned?

I use PHOTO TRANSFER APP to get photos from my PC to iPad, works OK.

The way Apple apps organise images into Albums and Events may make things a little tricky to do things automatically. I suspect the new Photo's app may help. You may still need to do a bit of manual work, but then sync via the cloud to both phone and iPad. I do wish Apple would let me use a Tree file structure as it would make my life a lot easier

If you mean like a hierarchical file system on a desktop computer with every App having access to it, I don't think that's going to happen.

The way Apps and the data that belongs to them are sandboxed off from each other is a pretty fundamental part of the security structure in iOS.

It'd not just iOS ( and I understand why they do it that way ) but in OSX as well.iPhoto and Aperture. However we have seen some changes in the latest versions on Final Cut Pro, with the use of Libraries, which looks like a better way to organise media. We may see something similar in Photo's,but who knows. Apple may be constricted by the need to make everything talk to iCloud
