Hi Guys,

I bought a large format printer to do canvas prints, I can currently print 2' wide by as long as I want.

But how do I seal the canvas prints so people can wipe them if need be?
Does anyone know what heat sealing is?

Thanks Guys,
BOM.

Hey BOM

What media are you using? Heat sealing is obviously a baking effect, which toughens the surface of the canvas. Edges are much more likely to crack over time though, so it's only used as a one-off.

I'm a member of a printing forum, where lackers are discussed on a regular basis. If you select the right combination of media and inks, then the better ones are water resistant natively :)

I don't like applying sprays. It can be quite difficult when spraying large canvases to get even distribution. I have seen some companies using compressor type areas, but takes a lot of practise to get the air pressure 100% accurate. What happens is, the spray can atomise in mid-air before it hits the canvas, so you get blots of hard areas in the spray. Too little pressure, and you get runs .... !

Hi Guys,

I'm currently printing with an Epson 7000, standard Epson inks and using canvas. I'm not sure on the canvas type at the moment as it came with the printer.

I've used compressors for spraying laquers in the past so have some experience with those, spraying motorbikes though not prints, I can see how it would be very easy to ruin a print that way.

Are water and UV proof inks the way to go then? can anyone recommend decent inks for my printer?

You're much better sticking with the pigment inks (you'd have to consider a new ink head, solvent based need good ventilation else you get VERY happy!!).

Cheaper probably to buy a solvent printer in the long run for this case...

You can get some very good canvases, that are crease proof (practically bomb proof) if you shop around...
