Hi folks, I wonder if anyone can help me? I have recently purchased a D90 along with a Lexar 8GB SDHC memory card. I previously used a D50 with Sandisk SD cards and to load them on my PC I used an SD card reader rather than the Nikon software provided with the camera(s) However either the card reader or my computer won't recognize the SDHC card, presumably because the reader is only SD. I have tried a Jessops multi-card reader with no sucess. I know I can probably load the Nikon software onto my PC and put the images on direct from the camera, but I do prefer the way I have been doing it with the D50. Does anyone know if an SDHC only card reader, as opposed to a multi one is available? I can use the SD cards but it seems like I am not getting the best from the camera. My PC uses XP as it's operating programme.

I had a similar problem with the sdhc card. It was the card reader. If you buy a new card reader now it should be okay. I bought a SATA dock with the card reader from maplin and that works without any problems.

How much do you want to spend?

Thanks Kev, I'll have a look in Maplins. Regarding price, I think the one I have been using was about 7 or 8 quid from PC world, I'm not sure as my son gave it to me some years ago. The one I tried from Jessops was £14.95.

I use a card reader from the pound shop and it works fine for sdhc cards.

Amazon have a few for about 4 quid.

7dayshop's own-brand reader works with 16GB SDHC cards and XP.
I've just treated myself to a Lexar USB3 reader for my W7 PC and that flies. :D

Most sd card readers that have been produced since sdhc was released can read sdhc. I've got a 3 quid sd reader that has never had a problem with my sdhc 16gb. If you try another card reader and it's still not working I'd be looking at exchanging your card.

I use a USB stick type reader from ebuyer. It doubles as a data storage device (like a normal flash drive) with a spare SD/SDHC card and it reads things plenty quick enough for me. I think they cost £1.99.

thanks
rick

Hi Terry, picked up a card reader from poundland yesterday. Just tried it and it works fine, thanks for the tip.

I've not tried it myself (Mac has built in card reader) But if you plug your D90 into the computer by USB, does the computer not recognise it as an external storage device, negating the need for a card reader at all?

Great, who says photography needs to be expensive, lol.

Hi James,
Thanks for that, yes I knew you could do that but I am used to used to and prefer using a card reader.
