Hi guys

I used a SDHC card for the 1st time this weekend and ive taken over 300 shots. Ive put my card into the reader and subsiquently into my laptop and its asking me to format it. Is there any way to get the great memories from this weekend off the card without losing em? i can view them on my camera if that makes a diffirence

cheers

Ben

Strange one but maybe if you mentioned which SDHC card make -laptop type MAC/PC- Card reader make and type - how the shots were taken ie RAW/Jpeg might help with your problem. Also have you tried using a desktop computer to see if that detects your photos? If it does I would put the pictures on CD/DVD disc before anything else incase the photos get lost.

Sounds to me like the card reader isn't SDHC compatible. Either get a new one or plug the camera straight into the computer.

I assume you're running a relatively recent operating system on your laptop?

First thing. Do not re-format your card yet. if you do that there is no chance of getting your data retrieved.

What make of card is it?

If you do not have image retrieval software yourself, then ask in a camera shop for details of somebody that may be able to help.

At least your computer is seeing that the card is there, which would mean there is a very good chance that image retreival will be able to recover the vast majority of your pictures. It is when the computer fails to recognise that you have even put a card into the reader that recovery becomes far less viable.

...if you do that there is no chance of getting your data retrieved...

Not strictly true. Most formats are actually quick formats. They do not write to every address on the card, they basically they initialise the file address table. Many recovery programs will retrieve pictures from a formatted card.

Definitely sounds like your reader can't read SDHC cards. As has been said try the cable
